Abstract
Young youth deviance has had many studies done over the years in hopes of honing in on
causes, cultures, common denominators, mental health, family dynamics, and so much more. In
this particular journal article the focus was deviance in young kids and the relevant issues with
their antisocial behavior. “The study of the antisocial behavior of minors is of interest to many
scientists: from pedagogues and psychologists to lawyers and criminologists. On the one hand,
this has led to important and diverse research detailing the nature, causes, and consequences of
deviance among youth. This makes it possible to develop better mechanisms for the prevention
of juvenile delinquency, punishment, and resocialization of minor offenders” (Huzik, 2021). As
interesting and important as this study was, it also caused contradictory approaches in regards to
the boundaries of deviance and delinquency.
Critical Incidents Assignment
Identification of the Premise and Supporting Points of the Article
The logic subsequent in this article focuses on the antisocial behavior of minors in order
to correct deviance, creating safer communities and refining the procedures conducted to prevent
criminal activity. “Societies recognize that investments in youth are an effective way to create
safe and prosperous communities. Therefore, the problem of the antisocial behavior of minors
and its correction has always been important for the state, and the efforts of educationalists,
psychologists, lawyers - aimed to solve this problem” (Huzik, 2021). Another huge focus in this
article was the complexity of antisocial behavior, the disorders associated and different
diagnosis’s.
Personal Experience and Synthesis of the Article and the Corresponding Material
Another word that describes antisocial behavior is sociopathy, which is a mental health
condition when a person routinely demonstrates no regard for right and wrong, ignoring the
rights and emotions of others. People with antisocial personality disorder, or sociopathic
tendencies, intentionally make people upset and manipulate or harshly treat others with cruelty.
They also have the tendency to have absence of remorse with no regrets. I personally have dealt
with and had the training on many children in the foster system who suffer from this disorder and
also have the deviant behavior associated. The article touches very closely on the all the internal
factors such as psychological, biology and genetics. “social or family sources of its development
and the inability to be social or abide by societal rules. Sociopaths live to satisfy their instinctive
needs, ignoring the norms of morality, the requirements of society, so they tend to constantly
violate the rules of conduct and laws, despite the possible punishment” (Huzik, 2021). Many of
the teenagers and young youth in the foster care system exhibited many antisocial behavior
disorder characteristics constantly running away, no remorse, and frequent criminal behavior.
Critical Evaluation of the Premise(s) and Supporting points of the Article
This article focused on the antisocial behavior of minors in order to correct deviance,
creating safer communities and refining the procedures conducted to prevent criminal activity. It
defined antisocial clearly focusing on the two types of antisocial behavior which is deviant and
delinquent. Huzik “defines antisocial behavior as behavior in which deviations from social
norms are persistently manifested, in the form of selfish, aggressive, and socially passive
orientation” (Huzik, 2021). The article also referenced many previous studies conducted to
further argue the point that boundaries are difficult to render with antisocial behavior disorder,
specifically deviance and delinquency. “Researchers scanned the brains of several adolescents
with varying degrees of behavioral disorders. During the scan, they were shown photos depicting
angry or sad faces. At the same time in normal children, the sites of a brain responsible for
emotions noticeably became more active” (Huzik, 2021). It’s a safe approach to note that out of
the four laws of suggestibility, The Law of Association (Harmening, et al., 2016) does not apply
to many young youth suffering from antisocial behavior disorder.
