Should a single model for policing be favored over other models? Which model is
dominant today?
Selected
Answer:
For me, the dominant model of policing today is the traditional policing model.
With this model, leaders supervise officers as if they know nothing and are not
capable of making independent decisions. Leaders want officers not to think
on their own and to make the best decision; rather, to follow policy no matter
what.
I do not believe a single model should be favored over others. For example,
officers should all be community-oriented and should engage in the
community. On the other hand, police officers' jobs are to make arrests. There
needs to be a set standard for officers so they have a guide to making the right
decision. However, that does not mean that every criminal or traffic violation
needs an arrest or citation. I like to use educational stops on traffic stops when
I believe the offender will learn from their mistakes.

What are the public’s expectations of the police? Can the police meet the public’s
expectations?
Selecte
As of today, the public expectations of the police are low as they do not trust
d
them. This is mainly due to the media. I understand officers make bad decisions
Answer:
and those decisions should be held accountable; however, when the community
turns their backs on law enforcement as a whole, this causes divide and strain
throughout the community.
I absolutely believe the police can meet the expectations of the public so long as
those expectations are reasonable. You cannot reasonably believe that
defunding the police is a good idea. Whether defunding the police means
abolishing the police as a whole or taking funds away. This causes good people
from not wanting to become a police officer. I have seen a record low
applications to my local police departments recently, even before Covid-19.
