Report writing
Being in law enforcement is a very difficult and taxing job. It takes a lot of attention and
a lot of skill to be a proficient officer and good at your job. Normal patrols to investigations
details play a very key and vital role in the job of an officer. That is why notes are very important
in this career field. One of the most important things that a decent officer is able to do is to be
able to take half decent notes. That is because as an officer after the notes are done you have to
write a report and the report will be based on the notes that you have taken. It is important that an
officer gets all of the names streets the incident all of that stuff correct. This is why note taking
and report writing is very important.
Case reports
When you first get onto a scene you would think that the most important thing to do is
look for clues or start writing stuff down for a bunch of notes but the actual answer is make sure
that the scene is safe and make sure that everyone is secured. This is because as an officer you
can often be put into dangerous positions and your job is also the safety of the common folk.
After you've secured the scene and you have made sure that everyone that could be there is safe
and sound you can start taking notes and looking around for important information and details.
The major parts are the cover sheet, Introduction, three different types of statements and facts
and conclusions. The face sheet is just for facts and statistics. The introduction is just that an
introduction to the facts and all of the important information that is involved within the case.
Next is the victim statement and this should be an order told by of course the victim and needs to
be very paid attention to because the victim statement is very important and we need to be able to
get all of the details that the victim is telling us. The witness statement needs to be in order and
also similar to the victim statement tell all the facts and as the officer we need to be able to ask

very thorough questions to get the full story and pieced together what truly happened in whatever
case that we are working on in the current time. To end it is the conclusion which tells us if an
arrest was made if any charges were filed and important stuff of that matter. Has stated before all
of this needs to be as thorough and the most detailed as possible because this could pop up
sometime in the future.
interviews1
When conducting an interview the first thing is again to make sure everyone is safe and calm. It
is also important for the officer to be in a very safe position so if something happened to garang
the officer can quickly defend himself and won't be in a compromised position. When
interviewing anyone it is very essential to get some sort of identification preferably photo
identification so you can verify that that person is who they say that they are. When doing an
interview ask very good questions that are open and be polite and it is good to have people skills
and communication skills skills sometimes if you can get someone talking they can just open up
to you and they can say stuff that they do not mean to say and that can often be very helpful
within an interview setting. When interviewing make sure that notes are kept to make sure that
the story does not change and is the same way throughout because that is also a very important
part.
Investigation.
When looking at a scene make sure that it is safe as usual. Look for evidence and things
that might be out of place and take solid notes and if available also get photo evidence of
whatever evidence that you can find. When investigating always keep a keen eye out and make
sure that you are paying very close attention and are you like all of your senses. It is very
[SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS] 4
essential to make sure that as soon as you see something you write down every single detail
about it because it is not good to forget anything in this field.
conclusion.
In conclusion the role of a law enforcement officer is very hard and at sometimes can be
very grueling and memory based. That is why notes are important so that you do not have to rely
as much on your memory and can focus on other stuff because you have the notes for your report
with you and that can be very important. Notes make everything more simple and when used
correctly can help to solve a case and save someone's life and change someone's life. The
methods that are in this paper can be used for any officer and any sort of investigation and should
be studied and memorized and used very frequently.

Footnotes
1[Add footnotes, if any, on their own page following references. For APA formatting
requirements, it’s easy to just type your own footnote references and notes. To format a footnote
reference, select the number and then, on the Home tab, in the Styles gallery, click Footnote
Reference. The body of a footnote, such as this example, uses the Normal text style. (Note: If
you delete this sample footnote, don’t forget to delete its in-text reference as well. That’s at the
end of the sample Heading 2 paragraph on the first page of body content in this template.)]
