-
The Devil has no more effective tool than to use past failures to discourage a
minister who has a heart to proclaim the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ to the
world. It is such a powerful tool that it can silence 42a minister for years.
Unfortunately, we allow the Devil (i.e., the father of lies—John 8:44) to place us
behind the huge wall of discouragement which doesn't permit access to those
who need to hear the truth. And given enough time you may actually think that
you deserve to stand behind that wall. Not So!
While it is certainly a comfort to be carried by another when we are exhausted in
life, there is no doubt that just as a loving caregiver finds great joy in tending to
their child's needs, God Himself is overjoyed to sustain us through the day.
God finds immense joy when we place our exhausted lives into His hands.
Be encouraged—when God places you into ministry, there is no better job
security. And even though you may not secure the position you are hoping for, be
encouraged that God will always deploy the ministers whom He has appointed to
shepherd His sheep.
You have been forgiven in order to once again teach others of the perfect and
protective ways of God. You have been forgiven in order to get the song back in
your heart. You have been forgiven in order to unlock your lips to freely praise
again! Today, why don't you take a moment to confess your sins and to thank God
for His goodness? Then start singing!
Ministers are to be inherently-minded encouragers. But each and every minister
would have nothing to offer anyone if they themselves have not first received
encouragement from the Lord. And once a minister truly experiences
encouragement, we are to hand that gift off to someone else and encourage them
to hand it off to the next person.
Don't worry, you are not "shrugging off" your responsibilities if you say "no" to
some of the requests made of you. In fact, just the opposite is true! By learning to
say "no," you are showing a level of spiritual wisdom. When you extract
unnecessary burdens from your life and discipline yourself to focus on only what
God expects of you, you will become more efficient in your time-management. You
will also experience a greater sense of accomplishment. Most importantly, those
CHMN 201

around you will not feel the spill-over of your emotional frustration like they did
when you were striving to perform the impossible.
You are making a difference! The rewards of your labor may not be visible today,
but the Lord is always working His perfect plan. The Lord has promised to reward
faithfulness. And you can be assured that faithful servants are always a part of His
perfect plan. They can drag you to court and dream up all kinds of accusations
against you, but the Lord will always receive the glory because He is continually
working in and through you to make a difference... for now and for all eternity.
It is out of great love for us that He wraps us in His protective arms and leads us,
guides us, and protects us. It is an unparalleled display of God's love for Him to
create us, redeem us, use us, and daily protect us!
Notice that the words "for the Lord" occur twice in 1 Corinthians 15:58. These
words hold the key to balancing what is necessary to do in ministry and what
should not consume your time. "For the Lord" implies two things. First, it teaches
that the work must be God-honoring. But second, it implies that the work you do
ought to be the work that God has specifically called you to do.
There has never been a more demanding season of ministry than we are
experiencing today. Thus, there has never been a more vital season to lavish
continual encouragement on ministers! Because the demands of life and ministry
never end, our words and acts of encouragement should never end.

11.What words teach that your work must be God-honoring and that to which God has specifically
called you?
-
Therefore, we must be men and women of prayer who learn to pray powerfully
and effectively for others.
Intercessory prayer seeks the best for others before the throne of God by
bringing their needs to the One who has the answer. Intercessors go between
God and man in prayer, bringing the concerns of poor and weak humans to our
rich and powerful God.

10."Jesus lived ______. His entire ministry is identifying with us, standing in our stead, and going to
God the Father on our behalf."
-
There is no servant leadership without brokenhearted tears.
One of the great servant intercessors is the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah has been
labeled “the weeping prophet.”
Jesus lived intercession when he walked on this earth. He identified with us,
stood in our stead, and he went to God the Father on our behalf. As a leader he
prayed for his followers. In speaking of the 12 disciples, he said, “I pray for
them” (John 17:9).
A large part of effective ministry is intercessory prayer. The word intercede
means “to go between.” Used for prayer, it describes the act of going to God and
pleading on behalf of another.2
Prayer as a general term describes talking to God. Intercession is more specific.
It describes coming to God on behalf of another. Therefore, while all intercession
is prayer, not all prayer is intercession.
Samuel so prioritized intercession that he felt failing to pray for his people was
sinful. He said to his people, “As for me, I vow that I will not sin against the
LORD
by ceasing to pray for you. I will teach you the good and right way” (1 Sam
12:23).
Although intercessory prayer is certainly not all there is to ministry, it definitely
is the heart of effective ministry. Intercession also makes the other activities we
perform—serving, witnessing, teaching, worshipping, disciple making, planning,
leading—more effective.

-Stepping up to leading a small group.
Man being made in the image of God beckons back to the communal essence of
God. As those created in the image of God, humanity has a deep, unique,
embedded, relational identity.
A healthy small group has the power to create community and connectedness. It
can foster real fellowship. Biblical fellowship or koinonia involves participating in
life with others to the point of knowing them, feeling their hurts, sharing their
joys, and encouraging their hearts.
Small-group leadership was Jesus’ ministry strategy. His pattern was gathering a
few to transform the many.

According to Everyday Ministry, Chapter 30:
31."Regardless of the technological devices someone uses to help us research God’s Word, the issue

35. Ministers are simply being commanded “_________” God’s message whether in a formal or
informal setting when they “preach”.
-Ministers are simply being commanded to tell God’s message whether in a formal or informal setting
when they preach. There is no fundamental problem with altering the description of a minister’s
“sermon” to “lesson,” “talk,” or “chat.”
36.Therefore, the major concern for the preacher or teacher should be to make sure that he or she
makes sure that he or she has a firm grasp on the accurate understanding of the “_______,”

According to Everyday Ministry, Chapter 31:
41.When dealing with the practical challenges of life, people find comfort in having a spiritual person
nearby to simply “_______ _______” _______ them.
-
42."Therefore, this support system needs to be prepared, thoughtful, and tethered to the Word of God
so as to support us with ______ _______."
-
When dealing with the practical challenges of life, people find comfort in having
a spiritual person nearby simply to “do life” with them.
Therefore, this support system needs to be prepared, thoughtful, and tethered to
the Word of God so it will support us with unshakable truth. This group that
provides support, encouragement, and accountability is one of the most precious
gifts we can provide a fellow believer.
Godly accountability is absolutely essential for those who hope to be all they can
be for God. It can be one of the most valuable aspects of our spiritual lives!
A wise minister will carefully create a culture of godly accountability for himself
and for those they serve.
So what type of believer is considered spiritual? The word implies a current and
continual state of obedience and a life that is set apart for God. Therefore,
spiritual people are those who are currently demonstrating a pattern of
righteousness that has translated into obedience when around believers and in
their private, personal lives.
Spiritual people understand how sin can enter the camp because they have remained observant to the
ways sin subtly enters into their own lives. No one is serving as a Christian leader if they are not
applying their keen spiritual discernment to speak to the spiritual root of all the issues, problems,
motives, and discussions in their accountability group.
In addition, spiritual people will be tactful when dealing with the rest of the accountability members.
Notice the verse says, “with a gentle spirit.”
Therefore, an accountability group is there for the purpose of realigning and positioning the souls of
the members into perfect alignment with God’s Word. In doing so, it may only take a word of
encouragement and a prayer offered on behalf of the member.
Remember that the issue is always the heart!
