DB 1: Sabbath GBST 103 Old Testament 1
Thread: Read Genesis 2:1–3. Unlike descriptions of the other days of creation, the seventh day, the day of
God’s rest, is not described as having a beginning and an end: there is no mention of “and there was day and
night the seventh day.” What can this teach us about the importance of Sabbath and about “God’s rest?”

In reading over the verses of Genesis 2:1-3 (ESV) so many people attempt to read into and add to what is
written in the Bible of God’s word. Doing so, Jesus made it very clear, in what Jesus had the Apostle John to
pen for all to read in Revelations 22:16-20 (ESV) as a fair warning not to add or take away from the Bible. So
many go on with their lives and I am speaking about so-called Christians that either ignore the warning or
are just Sunday morning Christians that go on about their lives. In the end, they will have to answer for
their evilness, and we are to pray for their true salvation and repent before it is too late.
The importance of the Sabbath was obviously not for God to rest, but without any question, God had a
purpose (like he does always) for man to allocate time to focus on God without distractions to give praise,
honor, glory, and worship Him as our creator. Today, man still looks at the seventh day as a day of rest and
have true fellowship with our creator and other believers that is instilled in us the way we were raised.
Now-a-days, man is not setting a very good example for the younger generations to follow. Back in the
1960’s where I was raised, no business was open on Sundays, but today there is more and more businesses
are going back to this way of life, so that is a start. With the thought of the phrase that Payne Stewart
started W.W.J.D. (What would Jesus do) has faded but needs to be given a kickstart to remind people to
think more about and show Jesus the respect he is due! God respected the Sabbath, so why can’t his
creation to the same and bring about God’s grace?
