Maximizing HR: Jill
Thank you for your thorough development on the importance of maximizing
human resources and the role they play in productivity within the healthcare
delivery system. Many of the issues or concerns that impact the healthcare system
are simply related to their inability to stabilize their productivity. Ensuring
healthcare delivery is dependent upon the production of future demand and
healthcare services and human resources' ability to deliver (Cruz-Gomes et al.,
2018). Therefore, healthcare institutions must understand that their HRM teams
play a critical role in not only ensuring patient safety, security, and satisfaction but
the productivity of their respective organizations and their employees as well.
Human resources play one of the most strategic roles in implementing
organizational policies, procedures, and regulations that help guide the productivity
of the entire institution. This can be achieved through many factors such as
communication, learning and education, technological advancements, and the
promotion of healthy employees. Furthermore, strengthening healthcare systems
increases the productivity of many healthcare areas including spending and
retention rates (Asghar et al., 2019). All in all, to ensure productivity, the human
resource team must also be productive themselves.
Interestingly, you mentioned retention as one of your strategies for
increasing productivity in healthcare. I conducted my research paper on succession
planning which addresses this very matter in healthcare especially as it can have a
huge impact on the delivery of care and productivity. Succession planning seeks to
address productivity issues such as vacancies and high retention rates and the
importance of healthcare institutions being able to quickly fill roles whether they be
an executive or first-line supervisor (McConnell, 2021). Retention rates and issues
are a constant barrier for healthcare institutions as people leave for many different
reasons but most often it pertains to work-life balance, competitive pay, and their
ability to grow within their current organization. Whatever the reason may be these
issues not only impact productivity but can jeopardize the delivery of care to
patients who desperately need it. Employee turnover in the healthcare sector
affects the quality, safety, and productivity of services which can lead to
unfavorable patient outcomes as well as reduced profitability (Al-Qathmi & Zedan,
2021). Leadership is essential in addressing this concern One key thing that will
help is promoting within. Many people leave their current employers because they
simply believe that there is no potential for growth or they will be overlooked for the
opportunity. Having a meaningful and functional succession plan can help address
this and increase productivity through better retention outcomes.
Productivity is vital in the delivery of quality and efficient care. Making sure
employees have all they need to be productive and ensuring an environment in
which there is room to grow will help bring about change and better outcomes for
all. Ecclesiastes 9:10 teaches, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your
might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol to which you
are going” (English Standard Version). Once again thank you, it has been a pleasure
engaging throughout the course. I pray that you are blessed and have much
success in your future endeavors.
