Describe and discuss the demographic trends associated with your product/service.
Before any company begins the process of producing a product they must first take steps
to create a plan on how much it will cost, what will be the return, who will be the targeted
group or groups and areas, and how they are going to promote. Coca Cola has made it
priority to deliver a great product to as many people they can as well as diversify the
types of products they produce to broaden the scope of their customers and their needs.
They have been preparing and analyzing where they are and where they are headed.
They have not limited themselves to just the United States. They are looking to expand
and grow in places like Europe and Africa just to name a few. (Staff, 2013)
Describe and discuss the current economic trends and the influences they will have
on the sales of your product/service.
Since its beginnings in 1892, Coca Cola has made its mark on history as one of the
longest surviving companies of the 21 century. Unlike many of its competitors Coca
Cola’s advertising technique draws the average person and making a connection with the
everyday individual makes for success in attracting customer. In the early 1900s Coca
Cola advertised their product by using attractive women. From the 1930s through the
1960s the image of Santa Clause enjoying the beverage was the new tactic. Between the
1960s through the 1980s is when Coca Cola went global by using commercials to reach a
broader audience. By this time Coca Cola had reached places like Macau, Turkey,
Paraguay, and the Philippines and their commercials made sure that they integrated all
types of people and cultures in order to promote their product. The slogan by then was,
“I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke.” (Arandilla, 2011) They also incorporated a jingle
which also added to the popularity for the product.
The 1980s is when Diet Coke was introduced to the world. Pepsi’s competition was
evident and Coca Cola needed to do something to move things back in their favor. After
this launch things to a turn for the worse. Not because people did not like the new taste
but because the original taste was favored. At this point going to back to the original
recipe was the only way to go. This is when they got one of the biggest stars, Paula
Abdul, to do a commercial for them. This was a very strategic move because Pepsi was
using Michael Jackson who was the number 1 music artist in the world. His music
crossed over racial and social lines so there would not have been a better person to
promote the product which meant that Coca Cola had to find someone just as qualified to
sell their product. By the 1990s the Polar Bear animation hit the scene. I remember this
commercial and I can’t explain it but something about that commercial made you feel
warm.
One of the most evident trends in today’s society is Coca Cola and their products feel like
part of the family. Sports events, celebrations, and any other gathering almost feels
incomplete without Coca Cola products and that is because of great strategic plans and
great marketing and advertising. Coca Cola offers over 500 brands of products
worldwide and is continuing to work for bigger and better.
