The Difference between Project Closure and Project Termination
A project is a temporary endeavor with several phases from the moment it is conceived to
when it ends. The term temporary implies that it has a beginning and an end. The two terms are
usually confused by many and, in most cases, used interchangeably. However, they do not mean
the same thing. Project closure entails a combination of activities such as confirming that all the
work has been completed, all the project management processes have been completed, and a
formal recognition that the project has been completed (Brewer & Scott, 117). During the closure
of a project, all the parties must agree that the project is completed and that all the stipulated
deliverables have been achieved. On the other hand, project termination occurs when a project is
assessed, and the project manager realizes that the project is no longer viable and that there is no
need to continue with it (Brewer & Scott, 126).
