PLANE WILL NOT MOVE!
Definition of Project:
The goal of this proposal is to improve and implement a new strategy on assembling of
C-17 airplanes. The aircraft is put together through a series of phases, with each phase focusing
on a particular aspect of the building process of the plane. This is done due to the size of the
aircraft. The C-17 stays in each phase before it moves on the next phase due to a set schedule. If
the aircraft is not finish in a previous phase, it will be revisited and concluded once all phases are
completed.
Diagnosis of Current Situation:
This can be a nuisance for everyone involve with the building of an aircraft. The C-17
would have to be dissemble, add the missing parts, then reassemble. This would create delays
and unfortunately, due to the dissemblance and resemblance of the aircraft, may create quality
issues. Furthermore, the assemblance of C-17 airplanes is adopted by every company in the
industry. Because of the process and the attitude of “everyone is doing it” leads to a culture of
acceptance of mediocrity (Heinz, 2020). If we can improve upon the process of assemblance we
could potentially be a pioneer of change in this industry.
Recommendations:
I have two recommendations for improving the assemblance process and changing the
culture surrounding our organization. The first one is for the company is to have their own
factory that builds the parts of the C-17. Most delays of the aircrafts are caused by parts not
coming in on time. If our company manufactured the parts, we can control the quality and
quanity.
This could also potentially save the company’s money by eliminating the middleman. In
today’s society and the evolution of e-commerce, buying and selling goods and services through
the internet has been a dominated force when compared to the old ways of business
transaction(Wang, Chai, Liu, & 2018). This is not exactly a new way as it has been done at stores

such as Sam’s Club and Costco. Netflix, one of most popular streaming platforms on the internet,
has done this by producing their own shows and movies.
When Netflix release its own original content in 2013, with House of Cards, the company
showed a growth of 2 million subscribers, in the first quarter. Netflix still offers other television
shows however that may not be the case in the future. When Netflix stream Lost it cost the
company $45 million dollars due to licensing. Netflix has recently double down on producing
their own content as they see it feasible and valuable (Joshi, 2020).
With the money that could potentially be saved, our company could hire more
employees. The addition of employees could help the process of assembling planes at a faster
pace (Mattocks, 2019). Think of a NASCAR pit stop, every crew member has one job when a car
comes in to refuel. The sandwich shop, Jimmy Johns, is known for being “freak-ish fast”. Just
like the NASCAR example, each employee has one job. There is a 3-person team to make the
sandwich, 2 or 3 drivers to deliver the sandwich, and finally one person to handle the money
transaction. Furthermore, with one person doing one job this could help reduce mistakes.
A combination of these two strategies could helped solve delays of scheduling and
improve the quality of the aircraft. It will take the support of not just the executive leadership but
also the employees to buy-in the plan. Without the support of the employees, the plan will surely
failed. The employees are the backbone of this company and they will be critical to get this plan
off the ground.
Implementation Plan:
The implementation of the plan will use the Institute for HealthCare Improvement
framework to set the plan in motion. The first stage is set direction or “make the status the quo
uncomfortable”. This is when leadership announces changes to the employees. This followed by

establishing the foundation. This includes for executive leaders to build and develop future
leadership within their staff. The expansion of the company as well as hiring more employees, it
would be best to promote personnel internally. Because the employees will know the process and
the newly found values of the company (Heetderks, 2018).
The third phase or “build will” includes to allocate resources, measure the performance
system of the company, and to make sound financial decisions. The fourth state or “generate
ideas” is where adjustments are made, listening to customers, learned from other companies that
have a similar process. Finally, the last stage or “execute change” is when the planned is fully
implement and spread across the company. This leads us back to stage 1 with a newly found
vision, pushing the company forward (Heinz, 2020). I believe this plan will help the explanation
of the new vision, how it can be achieved, and how it affects, positively, can lead to a better,
happier staff.
Summary:
I believe for our company to be successful I believe change needs to be made, even if my
plan is not implement. As mention earlier, every other industry in our field does the same thing,
so why can’t we be different? A perfect example is Denmark’s biggest energy company, Danish
Oil and Natural Gas that went from coal and gas used to going green. The company was in a
financial crisis and Henrik Poulsen, a former executive for LEGO, was able to pull the company
out. The used of sunlight and windmill as the main source to provide energy of the country of
Denmark was revolutionary (Anthony, Trotter, & 2021).
Business and companies must find different ways to be innovate. When organization
failed to adapt to change, compliancy can occur among the employees and the business can be in
danger. Companies such as Toy-r-us, Blockbuster, or Kodak are just some examples of this and
have unfortunately dramatically reduce in size or even worst, went bankrupt (Xue, Zhang, 2018).

“Do not be anxious about anything, but prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV).”
