PROJECT 2 2
Abstract
Project 2 is the in-depth reflection of the results gotten from seven different assessments
exams taken through McGraw Hill Connect. The goal of this assessment is to get a detail
introspective on the authors personality traits, and attitudes in the workplace. Step 1 provides a
sectioned study of the results divided in the categories of Personality Insights, Working with
Others, and Life in organizations. Step 2 applies the concepts learned to the authors workplace
behavior and interactions with others. Step 3 gives a short reflection on how the Holy Spirit has
changed the authors fears into strengths. The results assessments are provided, and specific
examples are given.

PROJECT 2 3
Step 1
Part 1: Personality Insights
Big Five with Myers-Briggs.
The five dimension of personality or the so called “Big five” are Extraversion,
Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, and Openness to experience. According
to my results I ranked high in conscientiousness (8/10) and openness to experience (8/10). I was
also moderate in extraversion (7/10) and agreeableness (6/10). Lastly, I ranked low in emotional
stability. I do believe the results are very accurate; however, I would personally classify myself
high in Extraversion (8/10). I consider myself a very sociable and assertive person. In like
talking and investing time in other people and often feel energized after. In regards of low
emotional stability, I do have to admit that I am an extremely emotional person who care a lot
about what others think. I do find hard to control my emotions. I believe that is my biggest flaw
and thanks to this assessment I will be able to devise an action plan to overcome it.
Attitude and Core Value Insights.
In regards of attitude and core value insights, I believe that this category was a mix of the
assessments taken. My attitude and core value insights seem to have a correlation with my
engagement. According to the assessments research shows that the more engagement the more
productivity and satisfaction there is. I strongly agree with that statement. My results showed that
I have moderate engagement (23/45). I have personally found increasingly difficult to keep
engagement this year due to everything that has been going on; nonetheless, I have tried to
maintain the best attitudes in the workplace. For me, preserving a positive attitude is personally
important as it leads to better results at work. I personally value hard work, clear communication,
and perseverance.
PROJECT 2 4
Motivation Insight.
In order to become a strong manager and leader, there must be a strong motivation
or will. The results showed that I have moderate motivation to manage with a specific score of
21/35. I definitely believe these results are accurate. While I usually am a very motivated person,
situational factors and personal adversities this past year have led me to fall under the moderate
category. I would personally love to be in a position of leadership or a management, I have
positive relationships with my supervisors. I would not personally classify myself as competitive
as I tend to naturally avoid conflict.
Decision Making/Problem Solving Insights.
Decision making and problems solving has been one of the most conflicting
sections to answer. I learned from the assessment three that decision-making for me tends to be
quite biased since I tend to let my emotions overcome me. While a leader needs to be in fact, as
objective in specific matters, I struggle to be. When it comes to problem solving the approach
that I tend to take is usually the safest one, I am not a big risk taker even if that sometimes means
to take a little longer. Oddly enough, on the assessment I agreed to be a risk taker but moderately,
as it is not my first approach. I always try to be prepared for everything and if a situation arises,
I strive to solve it with reason, even though it might be hard sometimes for me to do so.
Part 2: Working with Others
Communication Competency and Listening Style.
In this specific category it would be safe to say that when it comes to
communication competency, I actively try to have clear communication with my peers and
superiors. Sometimes I do let myself become diplomatic and not express some concerns I might
have; however, it is something that I have been working on for quite a while, and hope to learn
PROJECT 2 5
when to be more diplomatic and when to be more clear about recommendations that could help
my organization or group in the future. Additionally, I learned I have a high need for
achievement which means that I have a desire to work with excellence and diligence.
Leadership Readiness and Team Insight.
Before taking the exam, I thought I was a natural leader; however, after
examining the results I realize that I might not be as a strong leader as I thought. In the first
assessment there were two statements that stood out to me. The first one being “I have a strong
desire to tell others what to do” and the second one being “I have a strong desire to behave in an
active and assertive matter”. To the first statement I answered “disagree”, and in the second one
I answered “neutral”. This showed that my desire to have assertive roles was not as strong as I
initially thought. In regards of team insight, the results showed that I am proficient at working
with teams. I might like to work alone sometimes, but when I work in teams I listen to others and
actively assume my role within the team. Assessment # 7 showed that I count with high
consideration when working with groups (27/30).
Conflict Tendencies.
Well-known researcher Sid Terason notes that “A small amount
of conflict management makes an organization prone to disagreement and poor performance.
Excessive conflict management, however, debilitates an organization in a number of ways such
as failing to make timely decisions, promoting hostility among members and creating an
unproductive work environment” (The effects of conflict management 2017). Conflict tendencies
are a hard concept to balance. The exams revealed what I already knew. I do not handle conflict
well. I have always considered myself a conflict avoidant. This comes from the fact that I tend to
be led by emotions. When conflict arises sometimes my emotions take over, ultimately hinging
PROJECT 2 6
the situation in some cases; however, when there is conflict and I have to resolve, I will
completely try to devise a plan to end it. If it happened to be in a group setting, I would be as
active and vocal as I can because I would develop a constant need to solve the issue.
Part 3: Life in Organizations
Organizational Politics.
Assessment #5 is the assessment that showed that I have moderate organizational
politics. I do not avoid any added responsibilities at work; however, I actively try to perform
better than my coworkers so I can stand out, as competition is fostered within the organization.
Due to the competitive environment, many workers within the organization have strong
organizational politics. I on the other hand, and as the assessment revealed, am more moderate
about this matter. I try to control overstepping my boundaries when it comes to these types of
attitude. My need for affiliation is 16/25, and my need of power is 16/25, both falling under the
category of moderate.
Organizational Needs.
The assessment #6 that dealt with the organizational needs showed that my
organization counted with a high view of fairness (39/50). This assessment made me realize that
I am blessed to be at the organization that I am right now. Supervisors treat employees well, the
employees are trusted, employees’ questions are dealt effectively and respectfully, and there is
great communication between managers and employees. In terms of Job Fit, all the workers try
to develop the assigned task to their full extent, and they feel positively reinforced by their
managers. Employees are satisfied. I can attest that the organizational needs are usually met due
to the nice conditions of the environment.
Organizational Change and Climate.
PROJECT 2 7
Experienced researchers Holly Buttner and William Latimer state that
“Organizational diversity has emerged as an active strategic area for many business organizations
in the USA in recent years” (Representative organizational diversity 2018). Diversity has become
and increasing relevant topic in regards of organizational environment. The organization that I
am currently at has very high diversity and a good climate. The particular assessment about
organizational fairness and inclusion showed very promising results (46/50). Although not
perfect, my organization is a very inclusive environment where there are clubs that represent
minorities and fair gender treatment. My organization counts with a very strong HR system. As a
minority myself (being an international student from Hispanic/Latino descendance), I have felt
included and do not have almost any instances of unfair treatment due to my race, religion, or
gender. There could be more people of each minority, but the organization is not at fault for this,
but external factors.
Step 2
In general, what have you learned from these personality tests about organizational
behavior that will help you be a better employee, coworker, and/or manager?
This personality tests have most definitely helped me realize the importance of
organizational behavior. Thanks to taking these exams, I was able to understand a lot of how I
develop in a work environment. Organizational behavior helps the businesses get insight on
employee’s performances and behaviors in the work place. It gives companies a framework of
how to be able to achieve their full potential in terms of work environment. This would
eventually lead to better results in every aspect of the company from internal issues to external
perception. For instance, I was able to realize the areas that I have to work on to become a better
leader and colleague. Before the use of assessments like this one I would get frustrated in work
PROJECT 2 8
environment for feeling that regardless of my efforts all I did was wrong. Speaking from
personal experience, since I found these assessments, I been taking other similar exams on my
free time. I have been constantly trying to apply the results in school and work since the
beginning of the fall.
In particular, what have you learned about yourself from this personality test that
will help you be a better employee, coworker, and/or manager? Provide specific examples.
Thanks to the assessment I have learned that good leadership can be developed. For
example, I have been using guidance from the book Type Talk at Work. The authors of the book
Janet Thuesen, Otto kroeger, and Hile Rutledge note that “Typewatching can bring us to a clear
understanding of how type colors and even controls, the kind of leader you seek and the kind of
leader you are hardwired to become” (Type talk at work 2009). To explain the concept, last week
I had a situation where to colleagues of the group that I lead were fighting because one colleague
always showed up late. After assessing the situation, I asked him why because I was worried
about his performance. He told me he had to go drop off his kids at his mom’s house so she
could take care of them while he showed up for the group meeting. We revaluated due to the
nature of his late show-ups and decided that he would be allowed to show up a little later than
the others. Through the book and assessments, I realized I am a feeling leader and my reaction
was a classical subjective approach. From the self-assessments, I was made aware of the areas in
which I excel and the areas where I have to work the most, ultimately making me a better
employee and leader in the workplace. The experience has been very enriching, and I would
recommend more people take the self-assessments in the future.
Step 3
How has the Holy Spirit transformed your weaknesses into strengths?
PROJECT 2 9
The Holy Spirit has in fact changed me from the inside out. When I was little, I always
felt that no one understood my thinking process, so I alienated myself from others. One day I got
baptized and received the Holy Spirit. Since that day, I was able to let go of my fears and anxiety.
I also managed to let go of my pride and let him take control of the situations I was surrounded
by. He has never failed me and has always led me where I had to go. It is worth mentioning that I
am not perfect, I am far from it; however, that just reminds me of how much I need him in my
life. He gave me joy which led me to become more extroverted and judging. Corinthians 2
Corinthians 12:10 states that “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in
necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong”
(KJV). The holy spirit changes one´s heart which later shows positive improvement in every
single aspect of one´s life. I have come a long way. Thanks to Him I am caring, compassionate,
objective and have a constant desire to seek the Lord. His knowledge has directly influenced the
person that I am today. Thanks to the Holy Spirit I strive to be like Jesus Christ and let everyone
know that he is the way, the truth and the life.
