-Expressions of raw and honest emotions poured out to God
-In almost every case, the emotions are met by declarations of what is known to be
unchanging and true: God’s character and his word.

Why study the OT?
1. The Old Testament is roughly 77% of the Bible.
-The entire New Testament has about 8,000 verses.
-The Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy) alone has 5,853 verses.
2. The OT was the Bible of Jesus and the apostles.
-Every time Jesus quotes Scripture, it is the OT
-Every time Scripture is quotes in Acts, in Hebrews, or the work of Paul, it is the Old
Testament.
3. The New Testament is full of the Old Testament.
-1 out of every 23 verses in the NT is a quotation of the OT
-There are roughly 295 direct quotations of the OT in the NT. There are between 600-
4,000 allusions of the OT in the NT.
4. The OT was inspired by God.
