Love God With All Your Mind
Love God With All Your Mind was a book I read throughout the course of this semester.
J.P Moreland separates the books into 4 sections. This books theme is focused around how to
develop a Christian mind. The authors reasoning for this is because of the day and age we live in,
it is critical to train our brain to think in a proper Christian manner because of all of the modern
influences and secular culture of the world.
Part one consists of chs. 1-3. Chapter 1 is about how the mind of a Christian has been
degrading overtime. One of the most interesting points from this chapter was how around in
1850, 3 Christian awakenings occurred. The author suggests that these awakenings had caused a
negative impact in the Christian mind. In chapter 2, the author makes a case against the anti-
intellectual mindset that is modern in today’s churches. Chapter 3 is about the nature of the soul
and the anatomy of our beliefs and actions. In this chapter, the author shows how one’s mind is
trained is critical to the development of their soul. Part 2 consists of chs. 4-5. In chapter 4, the
author gives advice on how to overcome a lack of intellect in ones mind and heart. By reading all
kinds of literature and especially scripture, one can find the knowledge and fulfillment of the
soul. The mind is like a muscle, the more we work it out, the stronger it becomes. Chapter 5
regards the virtues we can have to work our brains out. The virtues listed in the text can aid us in
logic and critical thinking skills when developing our minds.
Part 3 consists of chs. 6-9. Chapter 6 is about the relationship between apologetics and
evangelism and how being able to persuade others with compassion and intellect. In chapter 7,
the author exposes the frameworks that are hostile towards Christianity and gives the reader
advice on how to formulate a rebuttal to each of them. Chapter 8 is about worship and fellowship
and how we need to think creatively about our worship and its intent. Chapter 9 is on the focus of
faith and vocation and how they blend together. As a Christian, being excellent in our work and
showing our faith through our jobs and following Gods calling is a key part in loving god with
our minds. Part 4 consists of chs. 10. In this chapter. The author discusses how being involved in
ministry work is a key part in showing our faith through works. Churches should play a big in
this idea and aid to our call as Christians to do ministry work.
Love Your God with All Your Mind is an overall very informative read. The organization
of the book is very neat and a very educational book for someone who is looking for more out of
their faith in Christ and has a desire to fill the emptiness in Christianity that someone could feel.
It is also a great reminder for some Christians who may have known to love God with their mind
but has not done so in a very long time. The book offers solutions to a multitude of problems
that a Christian in modern society may feel. Loving God with your mind has not been
implemented in the typical church for a long time according to the book. A section of the book
that resonated with me was how Christians are called to do missionary work. I feel in today’s
society, a majority of Christians have not implemented their faith through works very little or
not in a long time. Additionally, the section regarding faith and vocation was an enlightenment
to me. By involving Christ in your thinking, you can have the ability to enhance your walk with
Christ.
