While studying Jappa, there was this lady named Tabitha. In Greek Tabitha means
Dorcas. Tabitha identifies the true differences of being the only female disciple
mentioned in the New Testament. As one of the first female disciple’s she is certainly a
role model for others. She set the path for others to follow for years, and generations to
come. Tabitha’s life was full of good deeds. She gave of herself and everything she had
to the poor and needy. She had a life full of good works, meaning that she dedicated
herself to the service of others at their beckon call. Tabitha’s entire life was so dedicated
to others even at the expense of her own health. The Church relies on the work of such
people to fulfill its ministries. She is such a mature person and never complains. All of
her energy is expended towards the wellbeing of others in her community. Hence as we
expend our energy in caring for others God will help us lead more balanced lives.
Tabitha fell sick and died after caring for everyone else and putting them and their
health first, she grew sick herself. Jappa prepared her body and it was kept in the upper
room which symbolizes the special gifting of God’s spirit. The disciples in Jappa on
hearing that Peter is nearby summon him. When Peter returns to the town of Tabitha he
immediately drops to his knees and starts praying for Tabitha. Peter tells Tabitha to get
up and works a miracle. Tabitha gets up. Peter takes her by the hand and shows her to
all believers. This miracle becomes known all over Jappa and many more people now
believe in the Lord. Tabitha’s miracle is that she gave of herself her entire life to provide
for the less privileged. We need to do the same in our lives. With good acts in our lives

we can transcend unjust systems. We need to have a giving will like Tabitha in our lives.
If we have this will then we too will experience a resurrection in our lives.
