Passage: Acts 19:11-22
A. How does this passage from Acts fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State what
type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and
explain why you believe this to be so? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300
words) in length. It may be good to review chapter 6 in to recall Everyday Bible Study
what each of these four themes are about.
Acts 19:11-22 tells the story of Jesus Christ's redemption through the Gospel of healing. Paul's
ministry exemplifies God's mission to deliver people from demonic spirits and disease. The story
of the Seven Sons of Sceva in Ephesus emphasizes the transformational power of the Gospel
through miracles and demonic removal, highlighting the importance of genuine relationships
with Christ. This narrative of redemption of the people of Ephesus who previously engaged in
magic and idolization and witnessed false belief in Christ converted in faith to Jesus Christ relays
God’s restoration of the spirit and health with faith. To be redeemed by God is not a "do it
yourself" project. The kind of redemption that God has in mind is one that only he can
accomplish (Cartwright and Hulshof, 2019). My belief is that people saw and heard of the works
of Paul, through the God who he prayed and preached about. God knows that after the people
heard the story of how the evil spirit spoke, their redemption would begin when they turned
away from things that were not of God.
B. How does your theological principle from Acts 19:11-22 fit with the rest of the Scripture?
