BIBLE STUDY PROJECT: INTERPRETATION TEMPLATE
Passage: Acts 19:11-22
A. Summarize: Determine the author's main point. In 1-2 paragraphs (200-400 words)
explain what you think the author is trying to communicate in this passage. Remember
two things. First, the focus of this summary is theological and not narrative. In other
words, your summary should highlight what this passage communicates about who God
is and what God is doing. Second, words like "I,” "We,” "Us," and "Our" are application
words and not interpretation words. Thus, they should not be used in your answer to this
question. Interpretation is about "then and there" and not "here and now." We were not
there so the passage is not about us. Our "part" in the passage is the application or how
we will respond to God's Word.
According to Christians, the author explains how God used Paul's hands and handkerchief to heal
the sick and cast out demons from people. These were not regular occurrences. The
handkerchiefs and aprons that Paul used to heal the sick were the same ones he used while
building tents and working with leather. One person who needed healing took a handkerchief
from Paul, and after being healed, others started doing it too. This led to the practice of
witchcraft. This passage emphasizes that God is faithful and unchanging and believes in
fulfilling his word. It suggests that God's promises are rooted in His character and purpose, and
not dependent on human actions or circumstances. Despite difficulties, this passage emphasizes
God's ability to carry out His plans.
B. Identify: Based on your answer above, write out one principle from this passage. What is
the one thing the whole thing is saying? You should be able to express this principle in 1-
3 sentences. As with the previous answer, this principle should be theological and rooted
in who God is and/or what God is doing. Please remember that words like "I,” "We,”
"Us," and "Our" are application words and not interpretation words
As Christians, we should strive to follow what God says, even though nobody is perfect. The
passage emphasizes that God's faithfulness and sovereignty are unwavering, and not dependent
on human actions or superstitions. It also highlights that God can help us even when we are
going through various obstacles in our lives. The text mentions that God's miraculous works
through Paul's hands and handkerchiefs were not meant to be exploited for personal gain or
superstition, but to demonstrate God's consistent character and purpose. Therefore, believers
should trust in God's unchanging nature and His ability to fulfill His promises, recognizing that
His authority transcends human circumstances and challenges.
C. Check: Consult at least one scholarly resource to offer support for the theological
principle that you believe the passage is teaching. In 1-2 paragraphs (200-400 words),
quote, properly cite, and interact with this scholarly resource to demonstrate that it
supports your theological and interpretive conclusion.
You must consult the "Commentaries" and the "Bible Dictionaries & Handbooks" tab
found on the research guide provided by the Jerry Falwell Library to access the approved
academic and scholarly resources. These resources are the only approved resources.
Using unapproved resources may result in a score of "0" for this assignment. The
research guide can be found by following the link on the Bible Study Project:

“Two years of ministry resulted in a growing success. As people broke free from their fear and
bondage, even the economy of Ephesus began to shift. Luke concludes this summary of Paul’s
work with a Greek sentence that could be rendered, literally, “In this way, according to the
mighty deeds of the Lord, the Word was growing and prevailing.” The tide had begun to turn.
Great news for the church, great news for the people of Ephesus. But this was no time to rest.
When the balance of power shifts away from the dark toward the light, Satan fights harder than
ever.” (Swindoll, p.371)
The power to change circumstances lies in Jesus. He is the embodiment of strength and
transformation. With his divine presence, he can create miracles and inspire those around him.
Throughout history, Jesus has been revered for his teachings of love, compassion, and
forgiveness, which have impacted countless individuals across various cultures and walks of life.
His words and actions resonate with people and have left an immeasurable impact.
