My ASU Story
My name is Niko Garcia and I’m a seventeen-year-old Sun Devil from Chandler,
Arizona. I have lived in Chandler all of my life. Even though it the heat is excruciating in the
summer, I love living in Chandler because I prefer the heat over the cold. I come from a wide
variety of ethnicities, including; Mexican, Lebanese, Portuguese, and American. I take pride in
who I am and a big part of myself is my family. My family has raised and transformed me into
the individual I am today. Throughout my entire life, my family has always supported and
encouraged me to take on new challenges. Early on in my childhood, my family would always
come to my sports games and cheer me on. Whenever I didn’t play my best, my parents and
older brother would encourage me to play better next time. They knew how to calm me down
and help me unwind no matter how stressed out I was. I wouldn’t be who I am today without
their guidance and unconditional love.
Ever since I was a little kid, I desired attending Arizona State University. I grew up
watching ASU football games and rooting on my Sun Devils. My father went to ASU along with
his nine brothers and sisters. Following in my father’s footsteps was my brother, and he
graduated from ASU two years ago. I view my brother and my dad as role models, and their
success in life has encouraged me to attend ASU. Additionally, I have an exciting interest in
business. As a kid, I would save my money and look for ways to make more money. I attempted
to create more chores in order for me to increase my weekly allowance. I knew business was a
field I desired to learn more about. With this interest in mind, I aspired to attend a college that

contained a well-recognized business school, and W.P. Carey is one of the top business schools in
the country. When I did my research on majors, I found sports and media studies as the most
exciting and applicable to myself. My entire life I played sports and watch sports with a passion.
I knew this would be a perfect fit for me. That is why my decision to attend ASU was so
intriguing and easy to determine.
Throughout my entire life, I have been known for a numerous amount of skills. One of
my skills I am most proud of is my natural ability to connect with people. I have a fun and
outgoing personality that people feel comfortable being around. Whenever someone is talking to
me, I always take the time to listen to what they have to say and communicate back to them. I
have been working in the restaurant industry since I was sixteen years old. As a busser, I have
received several compliments on my friendliness and my desire to help others. When I worked at
Red Lobster, there were plenty of times when the servers would get stressed and tend to break
down. When I noticed this, I would offer to help them in order to relieve them of their stress. It is
important to me that whatever I do in life, I have the best attitude possible. I always want to be
optimistic and find the good in any situation. This strength of mine, I value and look to maintain
for the rest of my life.
The thing that is most important to me is family. I strive every day to educate and further
develop myself for my family. All of my life I have urged to get good grades and go to college. I
aspire to be able to have a successful job with a steady income. This is one of the reasons I want
to go into business. Business contains a wide variety of high paying jobs that would fulfill my
desires. I could be a manager of operations, a marking manager, a program director, or an
advertising sales agent. All of these occupations include important decision making on a daily
basis. I know I capable of handling the responsibility and all of the requirements of these jobs.

With any of these careers, I will be able to put food on the table for my children and provide for
whatever needs my family has. I don’t ever want my family to be worried about money. I want
them to feel relaxed and stress free. Additionally, the thought of having children and a wife
motivates me to improve myself. I aspire supporting my family emotionally and providing them
with the best version of myself. Having a family and creating an immense amount of happiness
in their lives is my goal in life. My goals, inspirations, and desires in life, not only represent who
I am today, but who I advocate to be as I progress throughout life.
