Macbeth Q&A
- 1
Did Macbeth always want to be king?
Macbeth's desire to be King cannot be definitely said to have always been there, however, the preoccupation that he displays when he is first given the prophecy seems to suggest that he has often contemplated the dream of sitting on the throne of Scotland. More than Macbeth, it is Lady Macbeth who desperately wants her husband to become the king as she wishes to be queen.

Does Lady Macbeth commit suicide?
This question is never fully answered as Macbeth is never told the cause of his wife's death. At the conclusion of the play, Malcolm tells the others that he had heard that she had killed herself. However, the answer to this question is left ambiguous by the author.
