William Shakespeare Book summary

William Shakespeare was born to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden Shakespeare on April 23, 1564, and married his wife Anne Hathaway in 1582. He was a man of humble education but his plays indicate that he was very well read and informed about most subjects. There are some critics who cite Shakespeare's lack of privileged education as proof that he did not write all of the plays himself, however, most scholars no longer subscribe to that viewpoint. Shakespeare put on his plays during the rule of Queen Elizabeth and continued to do so under the reign of King James. It is established that the bard was a favorite of both the monarchs and King James honored his company above other artists by allowing them to refer to themselves as the king's men. Shakespeare's plays continue to be read today due to their complex and engaging characters that are woven into fantastically elaborate plots. Some of his other well-known plays include Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Othello, A Midsummer Night's dream, and several others.
