Complete as a grad student and middle school science teacher

Knowing and understanding personal beliefs about education and your approach to teaching and supervision is important as you work to know the characteristics of adult learners and understand the change process in adults and schools (Learning Outcomes 5 & 6). This assignment encourages educators to reflect on their core beliefs about learning, teaching, and leadership, recognizing that these beliefs shape their actions and decisions within the classroom and school.

Based on Chapters 2-5, complete Part 1, and Part 2 of Assignment 2.

Part 1: With a small group from this class, meet to discuss your beliefs on the following questions:

  • What      should be the purpose of education?
  • What      should be the content of the school curriculum?
  • Who      should control the learning environment?
  • What      should be the relationship between the teacher and the students?
  • Under      what conditions is student learning most successful?

During your discussion, make sure you cite text that supports your beliefs. Write a one-page reflection of the conversation you had with your peers.

This includes the evaluation mandated by the state, a walk-through observation sheet, an informal observation tool, etc. Prepare a written evaluation of the instrument. Include your opinion on whether the instrument fulfills its stated purpose. If it does not fulfill its intended purpose, write what needs to be changed/adjusted for observations. Defend your position and indicate your rationale.
