Discussion Assignment Instructions
Directions: You will post one thread of at least 300 words of the assigned week.
For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 2 scholarly citations and references in APA format.
Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years unless the student is citing classic or historical theoretical information or research. Acceptable sources include course materials, scholarly peer-reviewed sources, and/or the Bible, in current APA format, with at least 1 of the sources being from course materials or scholarly, peer-reviewed articles or texts.
Single-spacing is appropriate in the discussions. The student will not be penalized if the references in the discussions are not in hanging indentation format, due to the difficulty that sometimes occurs with formatting discussions. First person is acceptable in the discussions.
Post-First: This course utilizes the post-first feature in all Discussions. This means you will only be able to read and interact with your classmates’ threads after you have submitted your thread in response to the provided prompt.
Discussion Thread: Prenatal/Infant Development; Transactional, Bioecological, RDS Models
As you engage with the material for Modules 5 and 6, what issues come up for you? What are your thoughts and feelings about the topics? Share your perspectives on the material, and support your perspectives with material from the course and/or other scholarly sources. Some topics and questions to consider are:
· Were there any topics in Modules 5 and 6 that were particularly interesting to you? If so, which ones, and why?
· Was there anything in Modules 5 and 6 that seemed surprising to you or different from what you previously thought? If so, what, and why? How was it different or surprising?
· Discuss any of the videos and other course materials that you find particularly interesting. What does the material have to offer the field of developmental psychology/science?
· Discuss some of the major points of prenatal and infant development.
· Discuss transactional, bioecological, and relational developmental systems models. How have theorists such as Bronfenbrenner, Sameroff, and Lerner changed the trajectory of developmental psychology/science? Or have they? How has developmental psychology/science changed over the past several decades?
· Discuss your choice of topics from Modules 5 and 6 from a Christian perspective. Are developmental theories and metatheories, and the other topics of these 2 modules, compatible with a Christian worldview? If so, how? If not, in what ways are they not? If not, how does a Christian developmental psychologist resolve the conflict?
You are not limited to these questions and topics, and you do not need to answer all the questions or address all the topics posed above. They are suggested to provide a starting point for your thought processes. Share your own ideas that relate to the topics of the module, and pose questions of your own if you wish. First person is acceptable in the discussions.

WK 6 DB: Prenatal/Infant Development; Transactional, Bioecological, RDS Models
After reading chapter ten “Relational Development Systems-Based Theories,” Jochen
Brandtstadter’s action theory central focus is on an individual’s intentions in his or her regulatory
actions. Meaning such actions give consideration to and set in motion maturing. According to
Lerner (2018), life span development is a lifelong process. No age period holds predominance in
controlling the nature of development. Life span changes in the dynamic between science of life
and civilization. Watching the videos in this assignment was amazing and full of knowledge
learning about the developmental stages of the fetus from inception and walking through the
weeks of maturation. Some examples of development were within the first eight weeks the fetus
can respond to touch and grasp at the area that was touched. The optic (vision) nerves developing
by the time the fetus is fifteen weeks. As the fetus grow and mature, it will develop what is know
as plasticity (within-person variability) which is found in the process of psychological
development. A major cultural issue for individuals that study the Word of God is that many do
not recognize the authority of the Bible. The Bible includes several scriptures referring to fetus
and the development of a child in the womb.
Lerner (2018), talks about action theories of human development pertinent to the nature
of human plasticity within RDS-based theories that suggests that developmental regulation
processes that govern or moderate the content and the pace, duration, and magnitude of the
relations involving the actions of individuals on their contexts and the actions of contexts on
individuals should be a dominant focus of investigations in the research of human development.
RDS-based ideas appear in this chapter to succeed. It may be, then, that such theories will be the
ones that prove most captivating to developmental researchers investigating psychological
processes throughout the twenty-first century.

In conclusion: in the sight of the theories in this chapter, as well as other examples of
RDS-based theories, individuals are part of a combined dynamic and multilevel process. The
potential for and instantiations of plasticity and initiative-taking research for attributes of
individuals and their ecology that together can be arranged to encourage positive human
maturation across life. Through the application of developmental science in planned attempts to
strengthen the nature of humans maturing orientation, the promotion of positive human
development can be attained by positioning the strengths of individuals and contextual
relationship.
