Leadership CRJA 4325-55
The 34th President of United States, Dwight.D.Eisenhower once said, “The supreme quality of leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.”
Leadership CRJA 4325-55
Confidence
To be an effective leader, you should be confident enough to ensure that other follow your commands. If you are unsure about your own decisions and qualities, then your subordinates will never follow you.
John Quincy Adams said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
Leaders are Inspirational
If subordinates feel that you are not fully committed or lack passion regarding the goal, then it would be difficult for the leader to motivate his/her followers to achieve the goal.
Leaders are Committed
Leaders must be able to communicate their message effectively to their team.
A good communicator can be a good leader.
Words have the power to motivate people and make them do the unthinkable.
Leaders are Good Communicators
A leader should have the ability to take the right decision at the right time.
Decisions taken by leaders have a profound impact on masses.
A leader should think long and hard before taking a decision but once the decision is taken, stand by it.
Most leaders take decisions on their own, but it is highly recommended that they consult key stakeholders before taking a decision (They are the ones who will benefit or suffer from your decisions).
Leaders have Decision-Making Capabilities
It is important for a leader to focus on key responsibilities while leaving the rest to others.
Leaders should empower followers by delegating tasks to them .
Micromanaging subordinates will develop a lack of trust.
Provide them with all the resources and support they need to achieve the objective.
Give them a chance to bear the responsibility.
Delegation and Empowerment
“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”~ Steve Jobs
A leader must be creative and innovative at the same time.
Empathy
Understanding the problems of your followers and feeling their pain is the first step to become an effective leader.
…the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Putting yourself in the other person’s shoes.
“A good leader takes little more than his share of the blame and little less than his share of the credit.”
“In life, as in football, you won't go far unless you know where the goalposts are.”
“Success isn't a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire.”
"Success is simple. Do what's right, the right way, at the right time.”
~ Arnold H. Glasow ~
Glasow was a humorist and a successful American businessman. He was often quoted and cited in the works major publications like Forbes, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal and several others.
Good Leaders Are Accountable
Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was an activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. By refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama, city bus in 1955, black seamstress Rosa Parks (1913—2005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States. The leaders of the local black community organized a bus boycott that began the day Parks was convicted of violating the segregation laws. Led by a young Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the boycott lasted more than a year—during which Parks not coincidentally lost her job—and ended only when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation was unconstitutional. Over the next half-century, Parks became a nationally recognized symbol of dignity and strength in the struggle to end entrenched racial segregation

Eleanor Roosevelt began her influential career when she was in her teens, becoming active in social work, before meeting her future husband. She was an early advocate of civil rights, and as First Lady of the United States, was independent and outspoken on the rights of women and African-American’s, long before the onset of the Civil Rights movement. She wrote a daily newspaper column that reached vast people, in which she defended women’s rights and other humanitarian causes. After her husband’s death, she continued working as a delegate to the UN, where she advocated for people, taking a non-partisan stance on most issues. She fought all her struggles, whether personal or political, with honesty and straightforwardness.

With the longest running daytime talk show on television, broadcast in 145 countries around the world, it’s easy to recount the leadership of this incredible woman. Beginning her life in poverty, she went on to become the single wealthiest African-American, and has in turn dedicated herself to trying to lift others out of poverty as well. She established the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, and invested over $40 million of her own money in the project.

Still going strong, Ruth Bader Ginsberg remains one of the most influential women in modern history. Being one of the first women ever to enroll at Harvard Law School, she had a prestigious academic career before she went on to argue cases for women’s rights that have helped to try and level the playing field for women. She has fought against gender discrimination every step of the way, and continues to do so from her esteemed seat on the United States Supreme Court.
