 Assignment 1

This assignment will allow you to practice identifying and analyzing the types of persuasive appeals you are learning about this week.

Locate an online advertisement or persuasive message that is five minutes in length or less.

Write a 350- to 700-word analysis of the types of persuasive appeals used in the advertisement or message. Are faulty logical appeals being employed? How do you know? Be sure to provide a valid URL for the message as part of your Reference(s) page.

Include the following in your analysis:

  • A description of the content of the message
  • A description of the persuasive techniques being employed
  • An evaluation of the message's call to action and whether or not it effectively motivates the viewer or listener to act upon the message

Assignment 2

The following assignment gives you the opportunity to craft a real-world message to employees.

Use the Week 3 Case Study document.

Select one of the scenarios in the Case Study document and write a 350- to 700-word message to the stated audience, employing the strategies learned in Ch. 8. Make sure to include the following in your message:

  • Discussion of the channel(s) or media with which the message would be ultimately communicated to the affected group(s), as well as the timing of distribution through these channels/media.

Include a title page and reference page.

Additionally Information from Professor

Two things that are asked for in this assignment are:

1) Choosing a specific type of document for this writing - formatting is important in this class.   Most students choose to write the message as an email.  This works well for this assignment.

2) the prompt asks that we include a "Discussion of the channel(s) or media with which the message would be ultimately communicated to the affected group(s), as well as the timing of distribution through these channels/media."

This is strangely worded, but it is asking us to include the steps and timeline for the event that is going on in the case study.
