Objective:

The objective is to introduce social issues relating to poverty and their interpretation of neglect by the dominant group that has access to resources. It also addresses the consequences from these attitudes and beliefs.

3. Answer the following questions and respond to two peers:

a. Why is poverty a problem for families based on the readings? Please cite specific examples

b. What aspects of the Logan Marr story bothered you and why?

c. What should have happened to prevent this tragedy in the documentary?

d. What can be done in America today to help poor, single mothers?

e. Discuss using examples from the readings and documentary whether the United States creates a system that only supports middle class and wealthy people's family structure, leaving impoverished people with the following options: 1. working more jobs to make ends meet, so more latch key kids, 2. welfare systems that penalize women and attaches a social stigma and doesn't provide sufficient support 3. children have access to inadequate schools 4. children do not have access to quality health care and food 5. children are at higher risk of abuse...
