Assessment Description

In this assignment, students will pull together the capstone project change proposal components they have been working on throughout the course to create a proposal inclusive of sections for each content focus area in the course. For this project, the student will apply evidence-based research steps and processes required as the foundation to address a clinically oriented problem or issue in future practice.

Develop a 2,500-3,000-word written project that includes the following information as it applies to the problem, issue, suggestion, initiative, or educational need profiled in the capstone change proposal:

1. Background of clinical problem

2. Clinical problem statement (Topic 3 assignment)

3. Purpose of the change proposal in relation to providing patient care in the changing health care system (Topic 2 assignment)

4. PICOT question (Topic 3 assignment)

5. Literature search strategy employed (Topic 4 assignment)

6. Synthesis of literature review (Topic 6 assignment)

7. Applicable change or nursing theory utilized (Topic 4 DQ 2)

8. Proposed implementation plan with outcome measures (Topic 5 assignment)

9. Plan for evaluating the proposed nursing intervention (Topic 6 assignment)

10. Identification of potential barriers to plan implementation, and a discussion of how these could be overcome (Topic 5 DQ 2 and any other barriers that have not yet been considered)

11. Appendix section: Update the Capstone Change Project Evaluation plan developed in Topic 7 as needed. Include it as Appendix A. Additional items developed for your capstone project (i.e., patient or staff education materials, etc.) can also be attached but are optional.

Exploring the Interplay of Policy, Regulatory Requirements, and Economics on Care Outcomes

My practicum experience showed that policy, regulation, and economics affect care results. My preceptor and I examined how these elements affect our project. First, regulations guide healthcare actions. HIPAA requires IT specialists to integrate EHRs according to strict rules. These rules govern operations and resource distribution. Budgets must match compliance demands to navigate regulatory frameworks. Financial resources can be limited; thus, regulatory compliance and resource availability must be balanced. Our project uses technology to improve patient care, but financial constraints make software and hardware acquisition difficult. Therefore, regulatory compliance may be compromised, compromising care results. Economic conditions affect resource allocation and care results. For instance, reimbursement policies determine the financial viability of specific surgeries or technology. A proposed modification that aligns with lucrative reimbursement methods makes it easier to secure funding, improving treatment results (Dopp et al., 2021). Initiatives not matched with lucrative reimbursement models may suffer resource difficulties, impeding implementation and affecting actual site care.

Reflective Example from Practicum Site

The dynamic play of policy, regulatory requirements, and economics in my practicum site became apparent when a new EHR system was introduced. However, the project suffered several challenges despite acknowledging the possible benefits of reducing documentation workload and enhancing data accessibility. Due to strict regulations on how data should be handled, the organization has had to invest heavily in encryption software and training for its staff (JhansiBharathi., 2023). Financial constraints presented some problems by necessitating certain regulatory requirements over others. This means that even though there were strong safeguards against data breaches, other attributes, like customization of a user interface for better workflow efficiency, could not be achieved due to budgetary constraints. The compromised implementation worsened care outcomes as healthcare providers struggled with an unresponsive system, leading to inefficiencies and possibly mistakes in patients' care documentation. The case points out how complexly interrelated policy matters, regulatory requirements, economics, and care outcomes within the real-world clinical environment are, which implies a need for the wise use of resources to optimize care delivery.

After that time, the diabetic nurse navigator and nurse manager will collate and analyze the data, which will be presented at the subsequent quarterly all staff meeting for the Diabetic Clinic staff at the Lope Rural Clinic facility.
