Historical Analysis – Early Christian, Judaic, and Islamic Art - Following a similar format to Journal 3, discuss the complex relationship between the religious communities mentioned above and their external, socio-political cultures. Religious cultures are a subset of a large, macrocosmic culture… for example: in Ancient Rome, when Jewish communities, or early Christian, would meet to worship it had to be in secret, because they were banned/illegal. What does that do to their ability to create art and express their visual culture in a public setting? What adaptations must be made? Where do we see this (i.e. where is the evidence?) and how does this ultimately shape their role in future iterations of this macrocosmic culture? Islamic Art is similar, although not outlawed like Judaism and early Christian practitioners. How does that change the timeline for the development and advancement of Islamic art? Give evidence
