ART APPRECIATION - Myth and Art

Having examined specific examples of art that represent myth. Myths were created by early humans in an attempt to understand the world. Myths describe acts of creation, the belief in gods and goddesses, and the actions of heroes and heroines. They define good and evil. Examples of contemporary myths include the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter book series.
QUESTIONS:
1) Do you see a purpose for myth in contemporary society?
a) Should fact-based scientific reality supersede myth? If so, why?
b) If not, what are the benefits of continuing the tradition of myth making?
c) Do contemporary humans need myths? Why or why not?
