52-year-old Helen Petrakis is a married Greek woman with three children who are all
adults. Helen is very dedicated to caring for her family including her mother-in-law Magda who
is 81 years old. Helen is very prideful in regards to her adult children. Her eldest son who is 27
years old is currently unemployed because of the unstable economy. Helen describes her 23-
year-old daughter as being smart, beautiful, and talented. Helen’s youngest child is 18 years old
is described by Helen as being academically gifted. Helen takes great pride in the care that she
provides for her family as well as her ability to maintain her household. Six months ago Magda
had a bad fall which resulted in her seriously injuring her hip causing her to now have some
physical limitations. In addition to the hip injury, Magda sustained she is also in the early stages
of dementia. Magda's new state of health has made things very challenging for Helen. Helen
now finds herself feeling more overwhelmed, stressed, and exhausted. A friend of Helen’s
recommended that she seeks assistance which is what led her to reaching out to the social
worker.
Helen’s family is described as being a sandwich generation with Helen taking on a role that
holds a lot of responsibilities as well as an additional task to ensure that the family is being
properly cared for. Helen has acknowledged that her responsibilities have become too much for
her to handle on her own. Helen refuses to hire help despite her having difficulty with handling
