Introduction
Through recognizing both the pathophysiology of illnesses and possible maladaptive
body responses, reactions, signs and symptoms, an APN can better diagnose and treat patients.
The aim of this paper is to briefly discus the pathophysiology, associated alterations and adaptive
responses to each of the three scenarios presented (Tonsillitis, Allergic Contact Dermatitis and
Depression). A mind map showing the epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, medical
appearance, treatment and adaptive responses to alterations of tonsillitis will also be incorporated
in this article.
Scenario One: Tonsillitis
The first scenario involves a 2-year-old female by the Jennifer who presents with her
mother. In this scenario, the mom is worried since the daughter has had persistent high
temperatures for 3 days consecutively. The day she was brought to a health facility, she had fever
of 103.2oF. Upon diagnosis, the nurse realizes that she has 4+ tonsils and diffuse exudates and
her throat is erythematous. The child has clear indication of sore throat and experiences pain
when swallowing. These symptoms are those of acute tonsillitis.
Tonsillitis is described, in Burton Shepherd's opinion (2013), as an infectious inflammatory
tissue process. Adenoviruses, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), adenovirus and the Masern virus are
