Comprehensive Assessment of Paula Cortez Utilizing Two Assessment Models
Evidence-Based Assessment
Paula is currently suffering from multiple conditions being as she has been diagnosed
with Hepatitis C, HIV, Mania, Bipolar, and depression. Paula’s condition has become worse
within the past few years. Paula also belongs to a dysfunctional family, which could be the
reason why she tends to isolate herself. Paula’s medical has zoned on a holistic approach in
terms of her treatment despite Paula being non-compliant at times.
Solution-Focused Assessment
Paula’s treatment history has had a lot of focus on finding various ways to improve her
condition. Medical professionals reinsured Paula that her Hepatitis C was not a big problem and
she was prescribed narcotic medication to assist with the pain caused by her ulcers. Paula is also
a psychiatric patient, so because of that therapy sessions and psychiatric medications are
available to her when needed. Paula’s social worker provided her with information on obtaining
a restraining against her child’s father due to the fear Paula has for him. Although Paula was not
compliant, the decision to have Paula involuntarily committed to a psychiatric ward at the
hospital was very essential in regards to her recovery as well as her giving birth to her child.
Two Areas of Strengths in Paula’s Case
The strengths in Paula’s case are not hard to miss. One area of strength in Paula’s case
is her resiliency. Paula was able to live and function in a country that was completely foreign to
her. From the time Paula was diagnosed with HIV to now, she has been able to overcome so
many trials and tribulations, as well as overcome many obstacles thrown her way. From being
