PRAC 6660: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Role I: Child and Adolescent
2022
Introduction
Adolescents, parents, children's therapists, policy makers, and doctors are realizing the
significance of the mental health of young people. Young people with a better mind and mental
health are mentally happier, display more socially positive habits, and participate in less risky
behaviors. Contrary is the truth that adolescents with mental health issues such as depression, are
more likely to act against the standard of health-beneficial behavior, such as consuming drugs or
smoking cigarettes (Patel,Cherian,Gohil & Atkinson,2014). In addition, since mental health
issues are developmental problems, they are also problems that can cause a substantial increase
in both the financial and social costs that these families and society must pay. In this review, it
touches on 13-year-old Hispanic girl named Carrie. Her parents brought another doctor's report
for her because her odd conduct is hard to handle. This paper would address interventions that
will be provided to the client and ethical decisions in dealing with the patient.
Decision #1
Early onset schizophrenia progresses before 18 years of age. Carrie acknowledges that she
"hears" and "sees" things that are not heard by most. Based on DSM-5, Carrie fits requirements
for schizophrenia "active phase" based on her current active hallucinations and her passive
behaviors. The goal is to ensure that Carrie is adequately diagnosed so that she gets the proper
care to combat her mental issues (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
