Introduction
Less emphasis is not put on physical education. Its non examinable subject. While the
importance of P.E is widely acknowledged competition from other examinable subjects
such as math, English, has forced many schools to reduce or council some P.E programs
in primary schools. Another challenge is that there lack of collaboration and sharing of
information on how to improve and strengthen the delivery of P.E programs in primary
schools. Teachers lack support from educational officers. Curriculum and c school
boards, in the provision of professional development opportunities to the physical
education that would assist them to improve their professional practices as well as tom
make PE an enjoyable subject to students. Physical education is mandated to make up to
6-10% of curriculum time but this allocation is rarely met, this becomes a challenge
especially when it comes to ;the implementation of PE in the curriculum.
The time allocated is minimal considering that physical education involves a .number of
activities which a time consuming
Research has uncovered a range of barriers exist mainly \because at the time of PE
usually relies on classroom teaching who already have many other pressures placed upon.
Research has found that teaches often omit mandatory PE hours from the week as a result
of feeling pressured e.g. the extend of curriculum and their lack of experience amend the
ability to teach the practical component of the PE syllabus
Teachers lack confidence in teaching PE. As it involves activities which the teacher may

Poor facilities, inadequate resources and low levels of interest in PE in general. The
limited sporting resources available in primary schools coupled with the lack of
experience to develop and execute lessons continue to be a problem to PE teachers have
often struggled with old traditional approach to physical education which is very skill
based. Lack of confidence in teaching skills and feeling of inadequacy with their own
physical prowess impact on the ability to provide quality teaching in this area.
Contemporary issues associated with physical education.
The role of physical education and sports will be examined from a double perspective,

There’s need to create the necessary condition to ensure that all over the world d the right
to access physical education and sports may be effectively exercised in accordance with
the fundamental principal asserted international chatter. The exercise of that right which
is a collorary of his right every human begin to education does not begin at school nor
should children not in school be deprived of their rights. There therefore a need to ensure
that physical education and sports are given enough room in the school timetable and
curriculum and that qualified staff are available.
There’s need to help children named adolescent to identify their activity or sports, most
conducive to structuring and bringing out their personality each to his or her own spot
psychotherapeutic features of sports here often have often being stressed in particular for
overcoming shyness, comporting depressing tendencies, channeling aggressive guiding
and moderating hyperactivity.
Budgetary problems have caused some countries to cut on educational services
particularly in physical education and sports. Urgent measures must be taken to prevent
decoration in the teaching of the physical; education and sports which should have
deserved and irreversible reputations on the development of all men and women of all
countries. All through such endeavors and the tightening of exchanges of experience and
corporation between sports movement of the developed and developing countries till it
becomes possible to narrow the gaps and in qualities between countries. In any case it’s
increasingly necessary to resolve the questions of the funding of programs that promote
the harmonious and balanced development of the various forms of physical and sports
activities without too much emphasis on top class sports.
Physical education and sports should be associated with each of the three stages
(theoretically undesirable or effective) in the educational process. The first stage focused
on the teacher, second stage of initiation aimed at giving children individually and in
groups a sense of responsibility, the thirds stage involving self management of the project
by pupils themselves.
