I would say that one of the agencies that has a lot of impact on me is the Internal Revenue
Service (IRS). I have to report to them every year by filing and doing my taxes. Every job
that I have had, I had to report to them and if not, then I could be in serious trouble with
them. They make sure that every company and every individual files and pays their taxes.
One of their policies that does have an impact on us is the privacy policy. The (IRS) can
collect information that can be easy to obtain such as your name and address, but for
personal information they need you to contact them and give them the information so that
you are on their records. You are trusting the person that is working for this agency to not
give your information to anyone else, which if they did both you and the person can be in a
lot of trouble. They are trusting the information that you are providing them with is correct.
When going through the departments and agencies for this assignment, I didn't believe any
would have been a part of my professional and personal life until I got to the J's. Job Corps
was the start of my professional ambitions and personal growth. Once I graduated high
school, I didn't have a clue what I was going to do with my life. I was a single mother and
no job. I was fortunate enough to still be at home, but I wanted more. Job Corps allowed me
to do this. They make sure that you receive the basic training of your chosen field. This for
me was Culinary Arts. Once you have completed, they prep you with job interviewing skills,
a resume, job searches and even clothes for the interview if needed. Job Corps is a way to
prepare yourself for a better future. You can get your high school diploma, GED or even
attend college through this program. With no cost to you, you can even stay on campus if
you qualify. All this and they pay you a little too. This program started my passion for cake
decorating and my hunger for starting my own business. This program definitely made a
lifelong impact on me. public policies, are made through enacting laws, like cutting taxes
funding programs or not, issuing and enforcing regulations and rulings or not, and their use
of force. These policies impact our lives by policies can directly affect you as an individual;
it can affect your daily life, your hobbies, your community life. An example of this is health
policy. ... Regardless of where you live, public policy plays an important role in the
international community of setting out to solve issues efficiently, as well as effectively.
After looking over the index of U.S Government Agency’s I have come to the conclusion
that the one agency that would have the most effect on my personal life would be the US
Army. The majority of my life was spent as a child of a military parent, my father was an
officer in the US Army so most of my life was decided around what policies and orders that
were needed to be followed. When I was younger since being a dependent I would get free
health care which was more important at the time to my parents since they were the ones
that would have to pay.Now that I am older I have now started to feel the effects of some
policies in a different way that I have felt previously. Such as after graduating high school
and I while i began to look at my options for higher education, some of my first few
observations where how much would I have left to pay for after the GI bill was applied to
my schooling cost. The two U.S Government Departments and Agencies that have
significantly impacted my life personally and professionally are U.S Customs and Border
Protection and U.S Department of Homeland Security. My husband has worked for U.S
Customs and Border Protection for the past fourteen years. This department has personally
impacted both of our lives. I know many people don't care or like to deal with this
department. Just in case someone doesnt know what this department does they keep terrorist
and weapons from entering the United States. And to implement immigration and drug laws.
The other U.S Department I that impacts my daily work is the U.S Department of Homeland
Security because I also work in the field of law enforcement. I work with both departments
everyday. These two departments impact me personally and professionally .
The Debt and Claims Management Center collects or settles delinquent debts for the
Department of Defense by the former military members and civilian employees. The Debt
management help reduce outstanding, unsecured debts over time to help the debtor regain
control of finances. I too had to uses this because my credit has so much things on my credit
that had needed to be erased off my credit in order for my credit score to go up and be
cleared from old accounts. Many policies are written when it comes to Debt and Claims
Management Center such as writing guidelines, allowances, and restrictions that guide the
debt issuance practices. The main reason we have debt is to ensure that the governments
financing needs and it's payment obligations are met at the lowest possible cost over the
medium to long run. As for myself in order for me to get my credit up I try and pay things
on time and if I do rent something from like a furniture place etc, I normally try to pay it out
within the three months so that it can build my credit up. As you may know from my intro
at the beginning of the class I am currently and active duty medic in the Air Force. It would
come as no surprise that the federal department that affects me the most would be the
Department of Defense (DOD). It affects everything I do, from my chain of command,
where I live or recieve orders to be stationed, and even my pay. There are many different
sub departments of the DoD but I obviously fall under the department of the Air Force
which puts out several new policies yearly. One that affects higher leadership is AI 94
Personal Property Management. This has to do with leadership managing property budgets
and logistics. I personally feel some of this as I am a Property Custodian of our section in
the hospital. Another impactful policy that the DOD recently implemented is the DODI
6010.23 DOD and Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Resource Sharing Program.
This program touches us specifically because we work in healthcare and we have specific
resources applicable to different beneficiaries based on their insurance status. I think that we
can all agree that the Centers for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) has made a significant
impact on many individuals lives. If you go to the CDC’s website (cdc.gov), the first thing
you are reading is information about COVID-19. Upon further inspection, the first opening
page to the website has quick links with information from the CDC about COVID-19 such
as quarantine & isolation, travel guidance, testing forCOVID-19, recommended restaurants,
and where to get vaccines or boosters.
Not only do they share facts and helpful tips on how to stay safe, but the website shows all
outbreaks of infections that are U.S. based, international outbreaks, and travel notices that
will be affecting you if you are traveling internationally. The outbreak sections contain the
date posted, the type of infection (E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, Coronavirus, etc.), the
contaminated food name, description of contaminated food, places that the contaminated
food is available to purchase, the “best if used by” date of contaminated food, and the stats
of sickness from the contaminated food including a timeline of recorded sick people. The
site urges individuals to check for the certain product that is contaminated and throw away,
and a list of symptoms to be on the look out for. The department or agency that has impacted
my life the most would have to be the "The Center for Disease Control and Prevention". The
reason that this has affected me personally would be because I don't feel as if they did
everything in they they're power to get a better control on the coronavirus outbreak. The
main role of this agency is to provide tools and services to communities that people need to
protect their health, and to stay on top and be prepared for new health threats. Honestly, I
don't think they did everything in their power to prevent and keep citizens safe. When
vaccinations first started coming out, only the health care workers and the elders had access
to vaccine. Which in return caused all the less fortunate and less wealthy to stay exposed and
go without, causing the rapid spread in the cases and making it to where it was too late to
stay ahead of the spread.
A policy that has been implemented by this agency would be to instead of just getting
everyone vaccines and not waiting until it was to late, they just chose to shut everything
down and making it to where even going to a grocery story was prohibited, that affected me
mentally at one point because I get really bad cabin fever and I'm sure it affected other
peoples mental health as well. They also made it to where even for the people staying
cautious and following guidelines didn't have access to anything. I ended up not getting to
visit family or even go to see my grandmother at the nursing home. It's caused an impact on
my life, and thousands of others. For me I would say the US Army is a agency that
significantly impacts me the most personally. It states that the US Army organizes, trains,
and equips active duty and Reserve forces to preserve the peace, security, and defense of the
United States. Being a soldier of the army is a lot of responsibilities and most of the time it
forces you to be away from your family which is a huge impact on mine. While your family
is home you being a soldier on duty you are protecting yourself, others, and of course the
United States from terrorist. It can impact your family mentally and especially emotionally.
Always worrying about a loved one in the army can be a personal impact on one’s life. This
isn’t my situation but an example could be if you have a baby and have to go away on duty
then you lose that time with your child which can cause you to have to get to know your
baby as they are a little older. Mental health also impacts your family when you are
deployed. Bankruptcy Court made a significant impact on my personal life. About seven
years ago, I went through a very rough time financially and mentally. I was drowning in bills
and debt and did not see no way out because my income was not enough with raising two
kids as a single mom. After speaking with a few people, I learned my options and filing
bankruptcy was one of them. I consulted with an attorney and he processed my bankruptcy.
Once I was discharged from the court I began see some relief. Although I had to turn
everything over, including my car after the first six months I was able to purchase a new car
and apartment. I had to start all over and build my credit, however if it bankruptcy did not
exist I would still be in debt and most likely facing garnishments. Bankruptcy gives people a
second chance and this time I got it right, I was approved for a new home loan. The federal
government agency that I picked to discuss that is personal to me in my daily life is The
National Institute of Mental Health or NIMH. This agency is the largest agency that
specializes in research of mental illness. Institute was authorized by the US government in
1949, the year president Harry Trueman signed the National Mental Health Act into law.
Being that it is a $1.5 billion enterprise, the mission of the agency is to spread the
understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through research and making way for
adequate prevention, recovery and cure.
I picked this agency because I work partially in the mental health field and have for the last
10 yrs. Seeing different cases and incidents happening in the world, paints a clear picture
that a lot of people either have the wrong perception of mental illness or none at all. I think
that the agency is a great starting point to get information and research out there to the world
on how we should handle different situations with people with this illness.
One policy implemented with this was the extended training for police officers on how to
deal with a mental illness situation. I have seen lots of situations where the incident was with
somebody of a mental health disability and the police was involved. There was no on-site
mental health person or strategies done to ensure the person's safety and ultimately ended up
with the mentally disabled person being killed by the police. This incident happens in my
city, actually about 5 yrs ago around the corner from where I was living at the time. Since
that particular incident, the police force has gone through extensive training or CIT (Crisis
Intervention Training) on how to deal with calls they get on how to handle those. They have
even hired on site trained officers that are considered specialist officers. Knowing that a lot
of mental patients I work with have been in situations that either had that kind if resource or
did not has given me hope to want to know more about how they could have been treated in
that situation differently trained or untrained.
Another is the policy that allows more of an outlet for mental illness and mental health. Not
being enough places for people to go seek help needed or hotlines to call for help has always
been a struggle. Making sure that those people have enough help out here then they do with
hopes of that also lowering the crime rate in America as well. Our Executive branch took
little to no action on illegal immigration into our country for as long as I can remember. We
then had president Donald J. Trump who put a stop to illegal immigration through his border
patrol policies. Enforcing our laws that were already in existence was part of Trump's
solution. Any safe functioning prosperous country does not allow for illegal and or
undocumented people to enter into their country. To allow thousands and thousands of
people maybe even into the millions of immigrants to enter into our country illegally is
going to have negative effects on our country.
We had a President who made such positive change for the first time in many decades on
illegal immigration into the United States. Positive effects on our institutions and general
safety came with this. This has an effect on everyone in the United states. Now after
bringing positive change to our illegal immigration problem we get Joe Biden who uses his
Executive powers to undo all progress that we made. President Joe Biden's Executive order
on Revision of Civil Immigration Enforcement Policies and Priorities January 2021
Presidential Actions: ''By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the
laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows: Section 1 policy (not

During the last days of the Donald Trump administration President Donald Trump with
bipartisan support announced agreement for new federal investment in our infrastructure
named the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This legislation is roughly
$550 billion for Americas roads, bridges, water infrastructure, resilience, and Internet. This
is for our economy, enhanced competitiveness and to create good jobs. This will not have an
impact on my daily life now but will have a great impact on myself and others in the very
near future. From our mass transit to our roads to our drinking water along with high speed
internet access for every American and clean energy infrastructure.
