-Most of my news comes from the following four apps:Politico, CNN, CBS6
and Fox29.My husband is a walking antenna and I usually tune in to see
what news he’s collected as well.My zeal for the news has waned over the
last 10 years and I’ve become jaded. While I do think it’s important to
learn about, understand and discuss current events, I engage when it’s
necessary.Honestly, analyzing the news involves opening my mind and
heart to boatload of opinions and I’m not interested in being at the helm.
-Politics is not something that enjoy because the process is personal and
full of emotion. In my opinion, politics equals money, and everyone cares
about their coins.Politics erases 1/5 of my mystery because I have to pick
a side or a view.Once everyone knows which side you are on, out come
the horns..lol.No, no, voting is the extent of my governmental
involvement.
-The Victoria Secret commercials were the cause of many unpaid bills
during my twenties. The models didn’t say much of anything but some-
how I kept hearing ‘buy this’ and you’ll have it going on.I’m not sure if
any of the strategies presented in Chapter 10 would have changed my
behavior or thoughts at that time. However, if had been mature and
understood the effects of a good hyperbole, I would have realized that
sexy has nothing to do with clothes.
-Recognizing the roles that reason and emotion play in critical thinking
has helped me to take a quick analytical pause during conversations that
may be sensitive.I am reactionary for no reason.Taking a deep breath,
meditating or simply saying ‘let me think about that and get back to you’
works just as well as responding quickly.Below is one of my favorite
quotes.
“You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to
everything that is said to you.True power is sitting back and
observing everything with logic. If words control you that means
everyone else can control you. Breath and allow things to pass”-
Bruce Lee
I’m still having trouble with inductive and deductive arguments.I’m not
sure why, but I’ll read it again.
