Course Overview
According to financial author Alex Berenson, “Microeconomics is the
study of how specific choices made by businesses, consumers and
governments affect the markets for different goods and services.”
For example, he explains that a microeconomist might examine how
price changes for apples might affect the sales of oranges to
consumers. Those price changes might come about due to a late
spring freeze of apple blossoms, driving down the supply of apples.
This would increase the price of apples, driving consumers to seek
another, lower-priced fruit that is in greater supply.
“Many kids come out of college, they have a credit card
and a diploma. They don’t know how to buy a house or a
car or health insurance or life insurance. They do not
know basic microeconomics.” —Jesse Jackson
