Two factors that should be considered when evaluating an argument is credibility
and relevance. These two factors are important because it helps you break down the
argument and evaluate each section of it. Credibility plays a major role since an
argument is made up of propositions and need to have supporting evidence to help
up assume the statement is true. An argument that contains credibility creates a
foundation to establish trust and makes the propositions in the arguments
believable. Relevance is also another factor that should be considered when
reviewing an argument, an argument should contain sufficient relevant supporting
evidence to deem the argument's conclusion feasible.!
An inductive argument is based on probability that can be open to errors, and
contains certain key terms that indicate the premises most likely follows the
conclusion. I think inductive reasoning is very common in everyday life, I for one
have fallen victim to inductive reasoning when I assumed that a hair salon was a
good fit for me to achieve the color and style I wanted since my friends and sister
had gone to this stylist and they liked their outcome, so I figured my hair would
probably look great too. Of course that's not what happened, I ended up with 6
inches of hair chopped off and charged double what I was expecting. A deductive
argument are made up of premises that are assumed to be true and backed up by
evidence and claims that the conclusion necessarily follows from the premises.
This week I found the most interesting this week was in chapter 6. The breakdown
and diagramming of an argument. I saved the diagram break down and thought it
would be helpful in the future to use these steps. I also found the example used in
chapter 6 “The Debate Over Marijuana” It was easy to follow the breakdown with this
example and follow along with the examples used.!
