Critical thinking is making reasoned judgments that are logical and well-thought out.
It is a way of thinking in which you don't simply accept all arguments and
conclusions you are exposed to but rather have an attitude involving questioning
such arguments and conclusions. E!ective communication, #exibility and tolerance
for ambiguity, open-mindness, and problem solving are some characteristics of
critical thinking. These characteristics allow to recognise, build and appraise things.
E!ective communication is when you can talk to a person or other methods of
relaying information that gets your point across. Open-mindedness is willingness to
try new things or consider new ideas. Problem solving is the process of 'nding
solutions to di(cult or complex issues. Tolerance and ambiguity allows you to deal
with ill-de'ned nature of problems that have creative potential. Avoidance,
denial/ignorance,distractions, and narrow minded are some common barriers of
critical thinking. These barriers gives you the inability to be receptive to any view
points that di!ers from your own and hinders you
from learning anything new. The video activities where informative and gave me a
clearer understanding of critical thinking.
Based on this week’s reading, critical thinking is an essential skill that everyone
should have. It means that you evaluate something in order to make a
decision.-Critical thinking is being able to look past something that you already know
to be true.-Some characteristics of a critical thinker are being open minded, and well
informed of certain things. When you are a critical thinker you are able to make
changes when needed, such as when things come up and you have to change your
schedule but still get everything done in the day.-Resistance and avoidance are two
barriers that make us closed minded. For example if you are in a company meeting
and someone states their opinion and you just do not want to hear anything they are
talking about.-This is a barrier to your critical thinking. The video “Critical Thinking in
Everyday Life” was helpful in understanding that we often use critical thinking
without even really thinking about it.-This is helpful in some ways as when it comes
to making sure we are understanding others have opinions around us, but then other
times it also allows us to be close minded.
