2-1 Discussion: Objectivity and Bias in the Social Sciences
Subjective observations are more likely to be included by scientists who use their own opinions
and emotions in their research. Having an idea of what an individual’s biases are through their
subjective observations can help us in seeing a clear view of what that individual may believe or think
will happen amid their research. However, these types of observations are generally based on
assumptions and opinions which can lead an individual to come to conclusions in their research that is
not based on fact. With subjective observations, opinions could change and in order to make sure
results from research are accurate and factual, biases should be avoided.

The women in this advertisement do represent those of many different body shapes and types. This
advertisement seems to show a bias by representing more women than it does men which in turn will
allow women to feel more connected to it. This ad uses the representation of these women in an effort
to elevate Google’s services and products and cause more people to check out their website.
