I do not believe individuals who are neurodiverse should change
themselves to conform to mainstream society. It is no different than
you having blue eyes, and me green. Every single person has unique
traits, brains working differently is just what makes a neurotypical
person more distinctive.
Society can benefit from different ways of thinking because many
minds together can bring loads of opportunity, perspectives and
opinions!
In my opinion the best way to move away from the stigma of
neurotypical people needing to be fixed is to simply accept that they
are also humans, with human brains. They just happen to use them
slightly different than non-neurodivergent people.
The concept of neurodiversity certainly applies to self-care. Many
neurodivergent people really struggle with self-care and sometimes
even basic needs. There are many self soothing tactics that NT
people use when they're overwhelmed and sometimes it becomes
too much to the point of neglecting themselves in both basic needs
(brushing teeth, showering, doing the dishes) and self-care (having
routines, proper rest, exercise, calming techniques) manners.
