The article summarizes how the liver is affected by stress and aging, which can lead to
severe scarring, also known as cirrhosis. I currently suffer from cirrhosis. The article also
discusses how this process can be reversed using investigational drug therapies.

Briefly explain any prior knowledge and what you’d like to know more about regarding
your selected news story.
Given my diagnosis with liver cirrhosis, I've developed a deeper understanding of liver
disease, its causes, and potential complications. Over the past three years, I've dedicated
numerous hours to researching the mortality rates of individuals with liver disease
compared to those without. I've also been curious about the liver's ability to rebound and
regenerate following a cirrhosis diagnosis.
Discuss the value of the scientific research presented in your selected news story for
contemporary society.
I value scientific research related to the liver and its functions. The article I chose
discusses controversial aspects of research, particularly the use of lab mice, but it's
necessary to advance our understanding of liver disease and its causes. The cause of my
liver disease is well-known and along with chronic hepatitis, is the most common in the
United States. However, there are cases of individuals developing cirrhosis without a
history of alcohol consumption, leading them to seek explanations for their diagnosis.
This scientific/medical study may help these individuals find the answers they are
looking for.
