apps are faceless and sterile, preferring a simple user experience over
anything personable. This is fairly common sense; a customer will not
necessarily care about the people behind their texting app. However,
WhatsApp went in the opposite direction, outsourcing the
development of their app to a Russian team. This allowed them to
better utilize the strengths of their small 30 person team, which did
not include app software. Instead, their team's history of customer
service allowed them to provide better overall experiences for users
and grew their brand in a competitive space.
