According to Micro D (2021), the Amazon effect is redefining e-
commerce as a whole. Soomo learning (2020) describes factors of the
Amazon effect as customers expecting next day delivery and also
being able to track location of their delivery and exactly when it will
arrive. Some of the positive effects are that companies are being
forced to adapt to Amazon's way of doing business and customers
are getting better service as a result. There is also now constant
innovations in supply chains in order to keep up with these demands,
resulting in better and more efficient ways to do business. There are
also some negatives to the Amazon effect. Soomo Learning (2020)
points out that an obvious downside to increased traffic from
logistics will have a negative impact on the planet. It also makes the
barrier to entry for a new company into a market much harder to
overcome (Micro D) and arguably will work to create oligopolies or
monopolies in most markets because newer companies simply do not
have the logistical capability to compete. I believe that the
responsibility for unethical practices falls about 80/20 on the
businesses and customers respectively. At the end of the day,
customers do not have time to do extensive research on every
company that they buy a product from, and do not have any absolute
power over the policies of a company.
