Sara,
Great job with this week’s discussion post! When I was younger, I had an interest in criminology and
forensic science. I always found it fascinating to try and understand criminal behavior. Congratulations
on being so close to finishing your bachelor’s degree! I agree with you in that it is interesting how
personalities are described as uniquely independent but there are categorizations that they can be
placed in which makes them not so unique. Although I agree with you that genetics or nature and our
experiences or nurture are equally active in the development of personality; however, I feel that nurture
plays a more significant role than does nature. This is because individuals may have inherited
predispositions to certain personality traits but there have been studies indicating that the environment
or place in which an individual lives has an impact on gene expression. Additionally, an individual can be
genetically predisposed to something such as depression or smoking; however, if said person has never
gone through any stressful experiences or have never encountered a smoker throughout their life, the
probability that their genetic disposition would prevail in their life dramatically diminishes. Again, great
job this week and keep up the great work!
Heather,
Great job with this week’s discussion post! I played in a couple softball tournaments in Colorado (just
outside of Denver) when I was younger, and I loved it up there! I agree with you that nurture plays a
larger role in the development of personality based on my personal experiences and changes within
myself over time. Awareness of our own personality allows us to identify our shortcomings and either
work to develop them and can be used to build efficient teams in the workplace and even help in placing
workers in the right positions. Understanding personality also gives us the knowledge to reflect on and
comprehend the differences that exist between individuals. Again, great job this week and keep up the
great work. Also, congratulations on being so close to graduating!
