7-1 Discussion Emotional Challenges
Young adulthood is the period of development between the ages of 18 and 35, during which
time a variety of problems might arise. Young adults have just graduated from high school, and while
some will go on to college, others will experience independence and have the freedom to select the
direction their lives will go. The new roles that people start to play and the growing responsibilities, such
as family life, schooling, and entering the workforce, mark the transition into adulthood. Young adults
begin to gain financial independence and personal growth with these new responsibilities. Numerous
young adults will experience the struggle of falling in love, and some may lose friends while others will
gain them. Family life comes with many obligations, such as having a secure job and being able to care
for a wife and children who come later. Many of their high school friends will drift apart as a result of
these new expectations, go their separate ways, and begin their own lives.
