8-1 Discussion: Exceptional Gifts and Talents
It is important to identify gifted children or adolescents using a multidisciplinary approach since
giftedness in adolescents can take many different forms and necessitates special assessments. Teacher
nomination, IQ and achievement tests/assessments, and creative tests are all approaches that can be
used to identify exceptional gifts and talents in children and adolescents. I feel as though intelligence
and achievement tests/assessments are the most effective techniques as intelligence tests measure a
student's potential rather than progress and achievement tests are used to measure cognition of
children and adolescents. Additionally, administering creative tests can be used for a variety of
purposes. These creative tests help educators and other specialists uncover any skills that are not
obvious in schools in the form of interaction and performances; however, the extent to which these
