PSY 211 Module Two Milestone Template
Review the article on the six dimensions of wellness. Then answer each question with a minimum of 3 to
5 sentences. Support your answers with credible sources when appropriate. Complete this template by
replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information.
● Choose one of the wellness dimensions and explain whether you feel it is guided more by nature
or nurture. Explain your response.
I believe emotional wellness is more guided by nurture. I feel this way because there are many factors
that contribute to our emotional development and effect the way we are able to manage our emotions
throughout life. I believe emotional wellness is guided by nurture more because someone who is raised
in a home where they receive lots of emotional support, and are surrounded by people who are what is
considered emotionally stable, is more likely to be more socioemotionally developed. Someone who is
raised in a home where their caregivers suffer from mental illness and are unable to give them the
proper emotional support is more likely going to struggle with things like their emotional wellness
throughout their life.
● Explain how one dimension of wellness influences cognitive well-being during a specific stage of
development.
Social wellness plays a key role in shaping cognitive skills like understanding others’ perspectives,
problem-solving and logical reasoning. These skills are typically developed during the middle
childhood stage. Engaging in friendships and group activities helps children learn and understand
that others have thoughts and feelings, which promotes perspective taking.
● Identify the wellness dimension that you feel most in control of. Explain your response.
I personally feel most in control of my occupational wellness. Occupational awareness is our
personal satisfaction we get from our career, academics, volunteering, etc. I feel the most in
control of this because this is one thing I do have full control over, if I’m unsatisfied with my job I
know I can find another job. If I feel like I need to do more to be satisfied, then I know I can find
a way to do that as well. The options are limitless when it comes to finding things to improve
your occupational awareness.
● Identify the wellness dimension that you feel least in control of. Explain your response.
Unfortunately I will have to admit I feel the least in control of my emotional wellness. As
someone who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder I
often struggle with managing my emotions and sometimes even identifying them. While I
continue to try new things as well as do the same things I always have to improve my emotional
wellness, it has always and may continue to be something I struggle with tremendously
sometimes.
● Choose one dimension that you believe to be predominant in development. Explain your
response.
Physical wellness is predominant in development because it lays the foundation for healthy
growth in all other areas. Physical wellness ensures that children reach important developmental
1
milestones such as crawling, walking and fine motor skills. Some delays in physical development
can even impact independence and social interactions later in life.
● Explain how emotional intelligence and resilience factors affect your well-being.
o Consider how you can apply the dimensions of wellness to support your own well-being
in your response.
Emotional intelligence and resilience are both important factors in overall well-being because they help
individuals manage their emotions, cope with stress, and maintain healthy relationships. EI allows
people to recognize and regulate their feelings, communicate effectively, and empathize with others.
Resilience enables individuals to bounce back from challenges, adapt to change, and stay optimistic
during difficult times. Together these traits reduce the impact of stress and promote a more balanced
and fulfilling life.
