Wow! Can not believe how fast 8 weeks have gone. I hope everyone
has had a great term.
• Why are you in school?
o I am in school because I want to finish what I started many years ago. I was
immature and had other priorities that I thought were important. I am older
and more mature and understand what I can gain from a great education. I am
also a role model for my children, and it has helped them succeed in school.
• What are your strengths?
o Some of my strengths are that I have great communication skills, work great
under pressure, work great with others, and solving problems. I can adjust to
just about anything and work to fix problems sooner than later.
• How do you learn best?
o I learn the best from never stopping my training or education. In my current
career, I have over 30+ certifications and continue to add to those. If you want
to be the best, you need to put the time and effort into it.
• What are your skills?
o Some of my skills are that I am great with computers, being a leader,
communication skills, organizational know-how, people skills, collaboration
talent, and problem-solving abilities.
• What skills do you want to improve upon or learn?
o One skill that I think I need to improve is being a better person with technology.
I understand it and learn while doing it, but it sometimes is challenging when
you have not done some of the technical things of today.
• What are your interests and hobbies?
o Some of my interests and hobbies are:
▪ My Family (spending time with them)
▪ Sports
▪ Food
▪ School
• What problems would you like to address in the world?
o The problems that I would like to address in the world are two issues. First,
people with PTSD. I am a sufferer of PTSD and know how it feels to be
depressed or lonely and think about the bad things that have happened to you.
There needs to be a better way than just giving people meds and sending them
on their way. Second, the opiate crisis in this country. People need to stop
classifying these people as bad people and understand why they are doing the
drugs and understand that they are human too. These two issues can go hand
and hand together.
• Where do you envision yourself in five years?
o In five years, I envision myself receiving my doctrine in Public Health and
making our communities safer for our children and everyone who lives in them.
• Which of the programmatic course themes is most relevant to your career or goals for
personal growth?
o Self-care
o Social justice
o Emotional intelligence
o Career connections
o Ethics
▪ In this course, we learned how programmatic themes can be relevant to
our careers or goals. The one that stands out to me is self-care. Most
people today like to “burn the candles at both ends” as they say. When
you do this, you tend to have the “burnout effect.” This means the
consequences are not in our favor like depression, anxiety, anger issues,
and other medical conditions. When we start to step back and look at
ourselves, we need to say what is in our best interest for me. Taking
that time to reflect on yourself can reduce or even eliminate the
negative implications that are associated with life. I have learned that I
am number 1 and if I am not 100%, my career or goals will not happen.
