• Why are you in school?
I am in school to pursue a higher education, take advantage of my GI
Bill and to learn how to be a better photographer and have it as a
career. I have 1 term left after this term and then I will graduate with
a bachelor’s degree in digital photography so I would say I am well on
my way.
• What are your strengths?
My strengths are that I am creative, focused, dedicated, brave and
loyal.
• How do you learn best?
I learn best hands on and in a classroom setting. Or at least I did prior
to starting at this school. It was a challenge for me at first dealing with
an online only learning base but reflecting on how I started to where I
am with it now, I think I adapted well and have excelled even with the
online learning environment. As a wife, mother to 2 young children
and a third on the way it really has allowed me a degree of flexibility
that I just do not see possible in a classroom setting and think it has
contributed to me making it this far and being about to graduate.
• What are your skills?
My skills are multitasking, time management, problem solving,
cooking, handy work, and photography.
• What skills do you want to improve upon or learn?
I would like to improve on public speaking. It has never been a strong
suit of mine and while I likely won’t find myself in a position to do
public speaking in the future it would be nice to be able to speak in
front of a group of people with out turning red and being nervous.
Also, thanks to this class I would also like to improve my emotional
intelligence so I can better handle my anxiety.
• What are your interests and hobbies?
My interest/ hobbies are photography, reading, house plants,
gardening, and my kids. My husband always says our kids are like my
hobby and I do not disagree with him.
• What problems would you like to address in the world?
A problem I would like to address in the world is how much hate and
anger there seems to be out there. We see strangers lash out on
complete strangers on social media or people flipping out on a retail
or fast-food worker for no reason and it is bothersome to me. I
understand people have bad days, but I just wish more people would
be more kind to everyone. You can disagree with a statement a
stranger said on social media without telling them our trash you think
they are and that they should just kill themselves. Stuff like that has
no place in our world.
• Where do you envision yourself in five years?
In 5 years I hope to be a successful family portrait and newborn
photographer living a happy life still happily married to my husband
with maybe 1 more kid (that’s a hard maybe), in good health, as fit and
active as I was while active duty and financially well off.
• Which of the programmatic course themes is most relevant to
your career or goals for personal growth?
o Self-care
o Social justice
o Emotional intelligence
o Career connections
o Ethics
Emotional Intelligence is most relevant to my goals for personal
growth as it will help me better understand myself, how to improve
myself and how I can help those close to me understand me better
and vice versa.
