• Is Turing's test the right way to approach the idea of
intelligence? In other words, if you have a conversation with a
computer and you believe that you are talking with a human,
would that computer be intelligent? Why or why not?
I don't believe Turing is a comparable test for intelligence for the
mere reason that they are programed by humans to do certain and
particular tasks/functions. Humans program computers to help with
data collection, answer basic questions, and run certain programs.
Computers are limited to what us humans program them to do,
therefore holding a daily unknown conversation between a human
and computer would not be possible.
• How are human thinking and machine computing similar in
function of memory? How are they different?
Both Human and Computers have a memory bank for later retrieval
of information. The differences are that computers can not
distinguish tone, anger, anxiety, depression, happiness, in general a
persons mood, a human to human interaction can be adjusted in the
approach of another person depending on the tone and mood of the
other, a computer is not capable of this adjustment.
• Do you think it's possible for computers to ever think or be as
intelligent as humans? Why or why not?
No I do not believe computers will ever be able to think or be as
intelligent as humans for the mere fact, humans are the programmers
even with the ever changing technology in todays world. Computers
cannot detect emotions, tone leading to a one way conversation of
programmed phrases and words, a intelligent conversation between a
human and computer is limited to the computers memory bank.
• How do either of the concepts of human intelligence or artificial
intelligence apply to any of the following programmatic course
themes:
o Self-care--Computers are limited to how they are
programmed, they can scan for issues or delete
unnecessary data that they have been programmed to do.
Humans are capable of taking care of their own needs.
o Social justice--Computers are not social beings, they are
limited to their memory banks with geographical
information or programmed information on any given
topic, Social justice includes society and problem solving
between humans.
o Emotional intelligence--Computers cannot distinguish
emotions or tone of a human, they are not independently
intelligent, they are "manmade intelligent".
o Career connections--Computer intelligence is used in
many areas of the world, even healthcare computers can
support medical procedures, diagnosis's, tracking
progress, time keeping. When coming to dealing with
humans one on one and understanding the emotion and
strengths of a individual this takes computers out of the
intelligence arena.
o Ethics--Computers can help with ethical issues, as long as
they are updated in their programming, if these updates
are not made in timely manners leaves the window open
for ethical errors. Again computers are only as intelligent
as the human programming it.
