Intro to Psy-108 Project 3
Connections to Emotional Intelligence my position requires me to be aware of the
effects of my actions because I interact with a variety of people every day. Due to the
fact that I will be working with people who have a criminal history, I will need to be
aware of any negative thoughts or biases I may have. Because of my own beliefs, it
would be very easy for me to become frustrated. I would always need to keep my
emotions under control. "The Psychologist provides an array of mental health services,
including pre-employment testing, individual and couple therapy, individual and/or group
debriefing for critical incidents, wellness checks, and suicide assessments," reads the
description of the position. Empathy and self-regulation will be expected of me. I will
need to constantly practice self-awareness in this position because I will need to be
aware of my thoughts and feelings. Due to their criminal histories, the people I would be
assisting would probably have a lot of negative thoughts and unadaptive emotions. I can
see myself and the people I'm trying to help getting into heated arguments. As long as I
exercise ethical judgment, the outcome may lead to peaceful resolutions. Connections
to Psychology: For this position, the Big Five theory of personality would be useful.
Instead of concentrating on their criminal history, the Big Five Traits would enable me to
gain a deeper comprehension of the people I am assisting. I can assist them in
recognizing and comprehending their own personality traits in order to enhance their
strengths. Strategies for Increasing My Emotional Intelligence I believe that I need to
improve my social awareness and my ability to resolve conflicts. With the people I'm
assisting, I'd use a lot of active listening to learn more about their backgrounds and
decision-making processes. Because I would be working with people who have criminal
histories, this job would help me develop social awareness and conflict resolution skills.
My emotional intelligence could improve society as a whole. It might assist people in
getting a second chance and keep them out of jail.
