Program Success
More and more public and private organizations, both nonprofit and for-profit, are being
pressed to demonstrate their efficiency. One of the best ways to help organizations initiatives' to
thrive is via maintaining open communication with stakeholders. Transparency is the first step in
empowering an NGO's stakeholders (donors, clients, and others) to hold the organization
accountable. A business will be much greater success if it follows the best practice of being
completely open and honest with its customers. The best way for leaders to ensure their teams
fully grasp transparency is to promote and actualize the behaviors they value actively. A
company should be forthright about its founding, operations, and goals. As a result, a reporting
system has been put in place through which institutions are assessed in terms of their intended
goals, financial growth and transparency, and present and prospective accessibility. The success
or failure of a strategy and the necessity of a subsequent strategy shift requires visibility. This is
the stage at which you should implement the third and final recommended strategy. If a company
lacks an effective reporting system, it may benefit from seeking outside guidance and assistance.
"Organizational effectiveness may be increased, problems can be identified, and consensus can
be reached with the help of an outside consultant" (Bryson, 2018). The goal of seeking outside
advice is to improve the quality of the strategic plan and technical assistance produced and to
track and evaluate the results of implemented strategies and tactics. While these best practices
help put strategic planning into action, they are only a means to an end without the proper
motivation, such as a clear goal and vision, to serve the organization's members and customers.
Decision-makers can improve the chances of a program's success by adopting best
practices such as SMART objectives, key performance indicators, and a balanced scorecard.
Standardized methods for gauging the probability of a program's success must be in place before
Milestone 3 3
its results can be evaluated. Key performance indicators (KPIs) have been used by Miami Dade
County, for instance, to evaluate the success of various programs. In addition to key performance
indicators, SMART objectives are a great tool for any business because they can help you set
attainable and timely targets. In addition, an company can benefit from the structure that
SMART objectives provide. " A balanced scorecard is another best practice that can increase the
chances of a program's success. Using a "balanced scorecard, businesses may convey what they
are attempting to accomplish, align the day-to-day work that everyone is performing with
strategy, prioritize projects, goods, and services, and measure track progress towards strategic
objectives" (Balanced Scorecard Institute, 2022).
Another suggestion is to do a stakeholder analysis. Bryson (2018) "A stakeholder
analysis allows "decision-makers and the planning team to immerse themselves in the networks
and dynamics around the company" Bryson (2018). Disney, the Sierra Club, and Miami-Dade
County are just a few examples of companies utilizing stakeholder analysis better to understand
their most important constituents and their long-term concerns. For example, strategic planning
in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is driven by the county's mission and core values; in the Disney
Corporation, the company's vision guides strategic planning across departments; and in the Sierra
Club, the organization's mission and values direct the delivery of a range of services to members.
Participation
Businesses would do well to start with flexibility when considering best practices.
Employees and other stakeholders must be adaptable to successfully implement a new plan, as
the plan itself and any subsequent updates will require adjustments when problems develop and
are addressed. Even though adaptation is a valuable strategy, it is only a panacea for some
problems. Not only does it aid in reorganizing the firm, but it also provides direction for
Milestone 3 4
performance. All parts of a company, including its management, need to be flexible in order to
survive. "a corporation must have its antennas tuned to signals of change from the external
world, and then immediately move to modify or reinvent its business model and even transform
the information landscape of its industry." (Adaptability: The new competitive advantage,
2011 ). Businesses that prioritize change will be more receptive to new ideas, which will
improve the variety, adaptability, and sharing of expertise.
Miami-Dade County, Disney, and the Sierra Club's membership breakdowns are all
shrouded in mystery. It is problematic that the reengineering approach needs to include evidence
or participatory features. There should have been a mention of a reengineering process
throughout the discussions about Miami-Dade County's goal, vision, strategic areas, or
overarching strategic plan. The Sierra Club and Disney would be in the same position. The
process of reengineering must be understood before it can be implemented. According to
(Proctor, 2022), "the five main phases of business process reengineering are to "define business
processes, analyze business processes, identify and analyze improvement opportunities, design
future state changes, and implement future state changes." The ability to recognize these main
essential factors in business process reengineering is essential for a leader to progress with
participatory characteristics such as understanding "why certain business processes are in place,
considering and placing evaluator programs or practices the given opportunities to improve
certain elements of the organization, developing processes, and putting these processes into
implementation or operation" (Proctor, 2022).
Program reengineering
Process improvement aims to "refine a business procedure in order to make it more
efficient and successful" (Curtice, R.). Many businesses have benefited from reengineering
Milestone 3 5
initiatives that have helped them eliminate mundane tasks, speed up procedures, and minimize
the manual labor required to complete tasks (Curtice, R.). As stated in the article cited above,
"reengineering initiatives must involve employees who represent the different departments that
the process traverses, and potentially representatives from multiple business units, geographic
areas, and factories where the process is conducted" (Curtice, R.). "Reengineering requires a
company to look critically at its strengths and shortcomings, ask challenging questions when
required, and make changes for the best of the organization"(Contributor, 2021). Many people
interested in reengineering ideas have heard about them throughout the public and commercial
sectors and spread the word. " The objective of renewal of public sector organizations in both
developed and developing nations today includes reengineering tools and practice at both the
local and national levels" (Reyes, D. 2020). Organizations can benefit significantly from the
external assistance offered by the government when reengineering their programs with the
intention of better meeting the needs of their stakeholders. By periodically reevaluating progress,
a company's head may avoid wasting time and resources that could have been used better.
Overcoming Constraints
The annual occurrence of devastating storms in Miami-Dade County has been one of the
region's most significant limitations. Enterprise management funds and government money are
available annually in Miami-Dade County to cover the expenses of repairing natural disaster
damage (Miami Dade County, n.d.)
There are limits to what the government can do, and the Sierra Club must cope. This may
be solved by open communication and active listening, which allows them to understand the
issues at hand better and motivates them to work with relevant agencies to find viable solutions.
The Disney Corporation has grown throughout the years mainly due to its practice of buying up
Milestone 3 6
other businesses, which has provided the company with both fresh opportunities and financial
resources. It is essential for companies to "upgrade products and services. The threat alone of
new entrants into the market requires the Walt Disney Company to hedge against such risk
simultaneously" (Bruce, 2018).
Recommendations for addressing these limitations are based on these examples of
companies. They include outlining a strategic management process, eliminating ineffective
initiatives, and compiling a list of "strategic concerns" to be addressed in developing strategies.
A strategic issues list ensures that the correct problems are being solved, that the organization's
plans and programs are in sync with its goals, and that any obstacles it faces can be overcome.
Outlining a strategic management plan to address organizational limitations is also crucial.
Achieving success in defining strategic challenges and organizational limits is a key
responsibility of every organization's leader. Outlining a strategic management process allows
them to do so methodically and efficiently.
Organizational success
Miami-Dade County utilized vital performance indicators to gauge organizational health.
Key performance indicators for Miami-Dade County were all based on predetermined targets
established for several strategic domains of the business how Disney and the Sierra Club
measure organizational performance has yet to be made apparent. Suggestions for improving
organizational effectiveness include collecting and sharing data on program outcomes, keeping a
close eye on operations, and forming review teams. Key performance indicators are a valuable
tool for tracking and reporting on the progress of ongoing initiatives through key performance
indicators. " Managers and executives can better assess the successes and failures of their firm if
they keep tabs on employee output. Strategic management requires the following: Continual
Milestone 3 7
monitoring of the "fit" between the organization and its environment and tracking external trends
and forces that are likely to affect the organization" (Bryson, 2018) . Lastly, designing review
groups will be "The composition of this group may vary considerably depending on the nature of
the review. Legislation and policies requiring scheduled reviews may specify a particular group -
for example, a legislative committee, city council, or nonprofit board of directors" (Bryson,
2018).
Successful companies always make sure they are using benchmarks to gauge progress.
Examining important metrics like products and services is what benchmarking is all about. Using
benchmarking, you may evaluate how well your company performs compared to its rivals or the
market leaders in your field. Using this instrument, management may see how their company
does against competitors and make informed decisions on how to proceed. Changes will be
implemented if the company is not fulfilling these requirements. If managers want to know if
they are using the best practices, benchmarking is a wonderful way to find out. It also allows
managers to see if they prioritize tasks effectively, which is crucial for making progress.
Corporate leadership can also benefit from using benchmarking. This allows them to assess the
company's present state and plan for the future. With these modifications, the company can
reduce expenses, which puts them at a cost advantage over rivals.
Customer Service
Customer service is another crucial area to examine; this is true no matter your company's
position. Companies can only endure with a steady stream of paying consumers, no matter how
well-run. Therefore, customer service needs to be given much importance. A company's first step
in providing excellent customer service is hiring the appropriate staff members to fill available
positions. When you finally do recruit the right people, you need to invest in their education and
Milestone 3 8
development by giving them the training they need to do their jobs well. Employee retention is
critical to maintaining high-quality service and caring for your clientele. Good lines of
communication between management and staff, as well as management and customers, are
essential for achieving this goal and maintaining the level of customer service required to sustain
the company's success. Therefore, leadership should ensure that they are soliciting feedback from
both staff and customers to ensure that the desired standard of customer service is being met. To
function correctly, the company needs both of these things. If the company's management is
receiving complaints from consumers or workers, they should pay attention and consider how to
address the problems raised.
Boundary Limitations
Due to boundary concerns, businesses must strive to overcome the fact that they may
encounter problems while trying to combine various parts. Therefore, a company must remove
barriers to communication and networking to assist in solving this problem. A more
comprehensive relationship may develop through these connections, fostering a link and trust
that can be leveraged in future endeavors.
